Jeni and Travis’ fun DIY 50s-style wedding
Hello everyone, apologies for the sporadic posting. It’s been hectic as anything and I’m relying on submissions for now (so if you know of a cool wedding, product, trend or vendor I can feature, shoot me a message!)
I’m glad though that I’ll be able to show you a great DIY 1950s-themed wedding today, thanks to cool couple Jennifer Junk and Travis Short. What you can expect: a Fender Strat wedding cake, a classic Chevrolet Corvair, a retro candy buffet, and floral fabric bridesmaid dresses!
All the decorations were handmade by the creative bride and upon seeing the photos, I was amazed at the amount of detail and personalization she put into all the elements — everything looked perfect and were completely in sync with the theme. Check out the pics below.

Jeni and Travis celebrated their marriage in October 2010 vintage style at the OK County Auto Trim Route 66 Museum in Oklahoma. I’ll let the bride tell you more about what was going on in her mind during the wedding planning stage.
We knew that we didn’t want a stiff collar traditional wedding. We wanted something different, and unique and fitting for the two of us and for it to be fun for everyone. But we were stuck for ideas. Then a light bulb went off… A few years ago, we seemed to always be broke, so, for fun we would just get in the car and drive down Route 66. One day on one of those adventures we ran into an Auto Trim Route 66 mini museum. The owner has created replica icons from the old mother road and spread them all over his property. Half of his Auto Trim shop is a replica of an old 50′s diner with an actual old drive inn movie screen (very cool). I grew up with a fascination for this era mainly because my mother, who has passed away, always told me stories about the ways of life in the 50′s of how it was a much simpler time and happier place. We couldn’t believe that we overlooked this unique and absolutely perfect place for us to say I do! We were the first to be married there and it turned out to be a huge hit!

More from Jeni:
We didn’t have a wedding planner, so I was in charge of that. I am very creative and artsy and plus we were on a pretty tight budget. I did all the decorations myself. I got the restaurant I worked in through high school and college cater 1950 diner style food and at a big discounted price. Our wedding cakes were wedding gifts from my husbands cousin and a close friend of mine. A friend I’ve had since childhood got ordained to marry us. I created a candy buffet with candy from past generations, we rented a photo booth (our largest expense), and hired an awesome caricature artist to draw pictures of the guests. So, I’d have to say that pretty much all the elements of the wedding were personalized in some way.

Thanks, Jeni and Travis for sharing your fun and unique non-traditional wedding with Poptastic Bride’s readers! I’m sure it will inspire others who are planning vintage-themed weddings for their own celebrations.
