Tiered Cookie Cakes as Wedding Cake Alternative
Remember the cupcake wedding cake trend? It was all the rage when I was preparing for my wedding in 2003 but I had already signed a contract with my cake designer so it was too late for us to have one ourselves.
The latest wedding cake alternative to emerge is the tiered cookie cake. I first saw the adorable tiered cookies stacked to resemble little wedding cakes in a Martha Stewart Weddings issue some years ago and loved the idea!

The great thing about mini wedding cake cookies is that they are easy to personalize — use your favorite cookie recipe and then frost the baked product with sugar icing in your wedding colors. If you’re working with a tight budget, you can save a lot of wedding money by making the cookie cakes yourself (if you follow the Martha link above, there are instructions on how to make the tiny cakes). They are very practical too as they can double as favors for your guests.

If you intend to give them away as favors, put them in clear boxes or cellophane bags and adorn the packages with colorful ribbons. (We have a selection o craft ribbons, come and take a look).

If you intend to serve them at your reception, make a bunch of the stacked cookie cakes in alternating colors of your motif and arrange them on tier cake or dessert stands. They will liven up your reception area for sure!

If you’d rather just buy the cookie cakes — and they will still cost a lot less than a standard wedding cake! — there are shops that offer them pre-made like this one from Beau-coup. Just tell them what colors you want them in and what initial to place on top.
