Karin and Craig’s DIY Gothic Winter Wedding
Karin and Craig were snail mail pen pals — the bride lived in San Francisco while the groom lived in Liverpool, England. They wrote back and forth for years until they finally met in person in February 2008 and guess what, it was love at first sight!
Last month, three years later, the couple vowed to be together forever in a beautiful ceremony littered with creative DIY gothic details, handmade elements that reference to their long distance romance, and a whole lot of love. I’m excited to give you a peek into their special day courtesy of the talents of Bowerbird Photography.
Here’s a shot of the lovely couple.
Don’t you just dig their style? I love how Karin and Craig kept with the Gothic theme without going over the top with it! See how they look smart and elegant in their Dia de los Muertos inspired outfits. Karin’s vintage-inspired black & white dress paired with the white shrug is simply gorgeous and it’s great how the colorful handmade skull boutonniere provides a playful focal point for Craig’s classic suit. The truth is I immediately fell in love with this wedding the moment San Francisco based husband-and-wife photo team Samuel and Ariel Soto-Suver showed me the photos.
More deets from Bowerbird Photography:
Karin and Craig’s wedding was held at the Potrero Hill Neighborhood House and catered by La Med. There were a lot of Day of the Dead themes and snail-mail too since that was such a big part of their meeting each other. They love Halloween so that was a big theme and they even made a love potion from essential oils during their wedding ceremony. Karin’s brother did all the flowers and the bride and groom baked their own vegan wedding dessert. One of Karin’s sisters belly danced and another sister sang at the wedding.
“Love potion”, anyone?
Here’s a great wedding guestbook idea – Air Mail wishes for the couple!
I hope you enjoyed ogling the photos as much as I did. In fact I could barely choose from the pics Ariel sent me because everything looked great and I wanted to share them all with you!
No worries though because there’s more — here’s a video of their wedding, also courtesy of Bowerbird.
Thanks again to Samuel and Ariel of Bowerbird Photography* for sharing the inspiring photos of Karin and Craig’s fantastic wedding celebration. Here’s wishing the couple a happy lifetime together.
