DIY Wedding Ideas from our featured February couples

February is almost over (where did the time go?) but before we usher in the merry month of March, let’s look back and review how the lovely brides & grooms I featured personalized their celebrations through their details. Here now is a compilation of cool DIY projects and other ideas from their weddings which I hope will inspire you to come up with something that’s uniquely yours too. (In case you missed the list for January, it’s right here).

1. Create a standout DIY ceremony backdrop and opt for a fabric flower bouquet  in bold and bright colors!

2. Alternatively, you can make paper flower bouquets using the kusadama method for yourself and for your bridal party.

3. Have bride and groom wedding cookies instead of cake!

4. If you have access to lots of wood (and if it suits your theme), wood slices make unique escort cards.

5. Pay tribute to your parents and grandparents by displaying their wedding photos and your family name on a line.

6. Save money and collect dried plants and flowers and place them in vases (or flasks like this couple did) — they make interesting and unexpected reception decorations!

7. Recycle old fabric and make your own buntings. Cloth in different colors and patterns work perfectly well.

8. Instead of the usual table numbers, frame photos of what’s important to you (buildings in this case since the couple works in architecture) and label your tables after them.

9. Alternative guestbook idea – guest records! If you have a huge LP collection like this couple, have your guests sign them and then hang them up on your wall after the wedding.

10. How about serving cookies in the shape of the state/island/place you’re marrying at?

11. Instead of having your bridesmaids carry bouquets, give them floral fabric clutches that match your floral fabric bridal shoes. (The clutches can double as your gifts for them!)

12. Make escort “tags” instead of cards and have your guests tie them around their wine glasses for easy identification later on!

13. If you’re into rock and roll, attach guitar picks to your escort cards to kick up your theme a notch.

14. If you’re music junkies, frame your favorite CDs and have them serve as table names / numbers.

15. Give your guests no reason to leave the dance floor — give them flip flops (which can also double as favors)

16. Another guestbook alternative: have your guests fill out fun questionnaires about how they met the two of you.
