Lindsay & Michael’s Purple and Orange Garden Wedding

Lindsay and Michael’s elegant, classic garden wedding last year featured pops of bright orange and purple. The combination is quite unexpected for a summer wedding but, as you will see in the following photos from Michigan-based S.C. Photography, the color scheme works beautifully against the pretty garden backdrop. Luckily we’ll be able to witness their lovely celebration on the blog today.

Here’s photographer Sheena Leazenby to tell us more about Lindsay & Michael’s special day:

Lindsay and Michael had a beautiful outdoor ceremony filled with color and light in Spring Lake, Michigan. The venue had an amazing outdoor gazebo area that was just breathtaking for a ceremony and portraits. The pomanders Lindsay chose to line the aisle with were gorgeous. After the ceremony, they became centerpieces at the reception. Instead of a main cake, they had a cake table with all sorts of decadent desserts. The catering was amazing, I always love working with the Gilmore Collection, as their service is top-notch. After a few hours of dancing, they brought out more desserts and a few different types of slider sandwiches. They live in California, so a lot of people made the cross-country trip to share in their special day. It was an amazing event filled with love and family.

Lovely Lindsay is here to tell us more about her and Michael:

I came out to California in June 2010 to do an internship in records management at the Exploratorium in San Francisco to fulfill graduation requirements for my library program from San Jose State University. I loved the climate and the scenery in California and decided to stay. In October I met Michael at a Bible study at someone’s house in Sunnyvale. It was love at first sight! By December we started dating and on Valentine’s Day weekend he proposed. I had never expected that I would get a stay-at-home-sick proposal. All my life I had dreamed of an exotic destination engagement or at least a nice dinner out. But as he was taking care of me at his house (I had stomach flu and bronchitis at the same time) both were out of the question. He made me a nice dinner at home and we called my parents in Michigan to tell them the good news. Both were absolutely stunned and hadn’t met my new fiance yet. When Mike told them he wanted to marry me, my mother replied, after a moment of stunned silence, “Well, Mike, we don’t know you yet, but we trust our daughter.”

Mike is a computer programmer and works for a ministry in Campbell. I am seeking librarian work and write novels and sell Avon on the side.

I graduated from SJSU with my master’s degree in library sciences and got married all in the same year. 2011 was the best year ever!

You can’t tell from just looking at the photos but Lindsay actually walked down the aisle to piano music that she wrote (she says composing music has been a lifelong hobby for her!). They used a lot of her original works for the ceremony.

Lindsay shares more about their wedding planning journey:

Mike said he wanted to marry me at the earliest possible convenience.

It wasn’t easy planning a wedding in five months! It was the biggest headache of my life, but when the big day came, it was all worth it. I knew at least that I wanted purple and orange to be the color scheme because they are my favorite colors. As purple is the color of power and royalty, I wanted it to feel like a royal wedding. Orange is a popular wedding color so I threw that in the scheme as well and they went together beautifully. My bridal shower was royal wedding themed and we made sashes with titles on them and funky hats for my guests.

For the wedding reception, I named the tables after places on Mackinac Island and the head table became the Inn at Stonecliffe, where my husband and I stayed. It was a Mackinac Island themed wedding. I had always wanted to get married in a gazebo and when I saw the one at the Trillium, I knew that this was the perfect venue. It was a beautiful day and everyone I loved was there, except for a few important people who couldn’t make it.
