Ashley & Ryan’s Ice Skating and Home Living (with a Cat) Lifestyle E-session

Ashley & Ryan are — in their own words — “simple homebodies” and all they wanted was an e-session that reflects who they are. Because Ryan loves cold weather and hockey, they held the first part of their lifestyle engagement shoot in an ice skating rink. Afterwards, they warmed themselves up by snuggling with each other and their adorable grey kitty safe inside their comfort zone called home.

I love the idea of this lifestyle session (and if you’re a long-time reader, you know how much I cannot resist cats in a photo session!). Bit of Ivory Photography‘s Chelsea LaVere’s softly-lit photos beautifully captured the cozy, genuinely loving mood of this session which made me want to hug my own kitty myself. 🙂

Chelsea shares:

Ashley and Ryan love their furry kid, Bella, and wanted to make sure she was just a part of their session as she is a part of their everyday lives. Their unique lifestyle session in their home together is one that I hope will catch on with couples! 🙂

First up is the “cold” part of their e-session —

It’s time to meet the cutie pie couple. Here’s their love story as shared by Ashley:

We met about 8 years ago during a summer job (for me). Ryan had just gotten out of the army and moved back home, it was his first job as a civilian. We worked at an ice cream parlor — yum!!! Anyways, I digress… so we were friends for a while. I was getting out of another relationship at the time and eventually, we started dating. 🙂  6.5 years later, after we both had finished college and graduate school for me and gotten “real jobs,” he proposed.

How the idea for their lifestyle engagement session came up:

Ryan loves the cold weather (he’s weird like that!), so as a concession to us living in the “south,” I thought it would be awesome to have our engagement session in the snow. Of course, the winter was super mild and snow never came. As we started getting closer to the wedding date, I knew we had to do something and by some miracle, I thought of the ice skating rink. We are both big Boston Bruins fans and Ryan plays hockey just about whenever he can — so it seemed like a perfect fit.

I talked about it with Chelsea and she loved it, and then we thought of  having a cold- then-warm-up-at-home feel for the session. So after the skating part, we went back home to warm up and get some pictures of us with our kitty baby.  🙂

Here now is the “warm up at home” part of their lifestyle engagement shoot:
