Rachel & Mitchell’s Laid-Back Wedding with an Urban Edge

Rachel and Mitchell simply wanted to celebrate their love for one another and have a great time with family and friends at their wedding and so they did exactly that. Everything was relaxed, from the jacket-less tuxes and custom Converse sneakers the entire bridal party down to their parents wore, to their hip theater venue with its built-in rock and roll vibe. The lovebirds in their casual wedding clothing were the perfect picture of urban chic, as you can see in the photos below.

Aren’t these shots beautiful?l Then again we can expect nothing less from photographer Tasha Hergott of Red Bird Hills (who’s also responsible for Jenn & Mike’s rainy day wedding + Varsity Theater reception)! Again, this feature is a mile long since I went overboard with the pics… but I know you’ll forgive me as everything is just so gorgeous.

Here’s what Tasha had to say about Rachell & Mitchell’s special day:

I LOVE photographing these two… I might be biased (I doubt it, though) because Mitchell is my nephew, but I think that these are two of the most gorgeous people that walk the earth!  I realized early on just how much fun it is to photograph these two when we took their engagement pictures last July.  Of course, it may help that Rachel is a well-seasoned model and Mitchell is crazy about her. 🙂 Rachel & Mitchell’s wedding was filled with lots of laughs, hugs, funny business, Converse, extreme temperature highs & so many great people that I love!

So sweet and in love… and how beautiful are these two? Rachel’s here to share their cute love story with us:

My husband and I actually met in the 3rd grade. We became friends and hung out with the same group. He had a crush on me starting in the 7th grade and always made sure I knew it but I wouldn’t go that “next step”. Then the summer going into 10th grade, the hit song by Mariah Carey, “We Belong Together” came on the radio when I was with my friend. I sent Mitchell a text message saying, “We Belong Together”. He replied, “What?”, so I sent it again and the next day we hung out, and started dating and since then we have grown to be each others best friend. We both enjoy sports, being outdoors, going on trips, and hanging out with friends. My husband is a Conductor for Union Pacific Railroad, and I am a waitress in our hometown Northfield at a restaurant called The Tavern.

Their parents wore Converse sneakers too… adorable!

Our ceremony was held at our local United Methodist Church, our reception was at The Grand, an old theatre in Northfield that was slightly touched up but still holds its theatre feel.

Instead of getting a fancy car or limo, we took Mitchell’s Ford F150 and fit all 15 of us in it and drove to our reception site (it was only about 1.5 miles).

The Grand has a marquee sign on the side of their building, and each event gets to put a little note on there to let the town know who has an event that weekend. Our marquee sign said “We Belong Together”, the quote that started our love story. 🙂

Rachel tells us more about what they did to make their wedding their own:

From before Mitchell even popped the question, we had talked about ideas. We always wanted a casual, laid back, comfortable summer wedding. We chose the theme “Black and White with a Touch of Pink” because it was casual but we could dress it up.

The boys including our fathers didn’t wear a suit jacket because Mitchell and I knew that it would be a hot summer day. We didn’t even order them because we wanted the laid back feel for not only our wedding party but for our guests. Instead they wore button up shirts with the sleeves rolled up with vests. The girls had light, long, flowy dresses that were all black with five white rosettes under the chest. The bouquets were the “touch of pink”, they were a mix of assorted pink flowers.

Mitchell wore mostly black; I wore white, with white flowers that had three pink roses in the bouquet to represent our loved ones who passed: my grandpa and grandma Mukina and Mitchell’s younger brother Jake. The entire wedding group wore customized Converse Sneakers and the ring bearer and parents wore the traditional black and white Converse and the flower girl added her “touch of pink” with black, white and pink Converse. The groomsmen’s shoes and mine matched with mostly white with a touch of black, and the bridesmaids shoes matched Mitchell with all-black with a touch of white.

We had black and white cupcakes with a few pink ones to add the touch of color, and they were the guests’ dessert  but we used them as the center pieces of each table. As favors, we gave our guests Minnesota scratch offs.

These pictures with the guitars was a spur of the moment deal. The wedding party was on the dance floor cause Mitchell and I requested one song for just the wedding party and as we were dancing, the DJ started handing out blow-up guitars and we randomly got in a long line and started playing the guitars. Haha, it was totally random, which is like our group of friends — we get caught in the moments and go with things. 🙂

As a parting insight I would share what my mother’s friend shared with me since she couldn’t make the wedding: Don’t sweat the small detail because in the end it wont matter as much as you think it might. Enjoy the night and spend it freely! 🙂  And that is just what we did!
