Carol & Andy’s Fun and Playful Disneyland Engagement
Today we have a fun and playful engagement session at, where else? The Happiest Place on Earth™!
Disneyland is Carol and Andy’s favorite place — it’s where they spent their first New Year’s Eve together and it’s also where they celebrated their engagement right after he proposed so it was only natural that they would have their e-session there.
It’s been ages since I’ve gone to the Anaheim park myself so seeing the delightful photos by Michelle Chiu Photography takes me back to my childhood. Here’s what Michelle had to say about the couple and the shoot:
Carol and Andy are so freaking adorable, they are a wonderful mix of nerdy-smart and fun-adventurous-up for anything! Carol is an optometrist and Andy is a doctor, so we had so many fun medical geeky-ness to play around with! Carol is one of those girls you kind of can’t help but become totally charmed by, she’s ultra cute and sweet. By the end of the day I felt like if we lived closer we’d probably be best friends. Andy — you are one lucky man!
One of the best parts of shooting Andy and Carol was how absolutely fearless and up for anything they were! They were so easy and up for nearly every idea we threw in their direction. We totally got yelled at for getting into some areas we weren’t supposed to, but it was worth it! I asked Carol and Andy to bring their stethoscope and ophthalmoscope, but they accidentally forgot it, and ended up picking up these toy versions which turned out WAY better than I ever imagined!!! They also made a Snellen Eye Chart for their save the date!
I adore the following doctor themed photos! Just look at how cute these two are:
Pretty Carol is here to share the funny story of how she and Andy met:
We met while working at OASIS back while we were undergrads in UCSD. I’ve known Andy for 2 yrs prior to us dating. He always had a serious look on his face and honestly I was scared of him since he never smiled. My impression of him changed when we were paired up as partners during the summer of my junior and senior year. We were working as workshop facilitators for Math and General Science to help incoming freshmen adjust to college courses. In the beginning, I was dreading the summer after I found out that he was going to be my partner. But slowly I found out that he is a nice person after all (who just has a default facial expression that looked slightly pissed… hahahaha).
So how about that ring on her finger..? 🙂
So I have always told Andy that if he proposed in a lame way, I would say no and have him try again. I explained that the proposal story will be retold again and again, it would be so disappointing if he just asked casually during one day at dinner.
It was the weekend of our 4-year anniversary. We planned to visit Disneyland (our favorite place !!!) for our celebration. When we arrived at the hotel, he suggested that we celebrate at the lobby with a nice glass of champagne. I looked around at the hotel decor and as I turned back to him, I saw a small jewelry pouch on the table. Andy told me it was his anniversary present to me. When I opened it, I saw something shiny. I thought to myself, “uh oh, he is proposing now” but when I took the shiny object out, it was actually a Disney pin. With a sign of relief, I told him that I honestly thought he was going to propose. He told me this was his “dry run” so when he proposes in the future, he would know what to do.
When we headed back to the hotel, I saw a series of photos spread out on the bed. He then told me it was an anniversary puzzle that he wanted me to solve. I replied that all of it was a very elaborate “dry run” and he chuckled. There were photos of us and each photo was supposed to represent a letter. At the end, all I could solve was the word “marry”. I thought the message would be something like “we will get married in the future” or “I want to marry you in the future.” It never crossed my mind that it would be “will you marry me” since the whole night he has been telling me it was a “dry run.” Andy sensed that I was stuck and offered to show me the solution. He had a laptop with an animated powerpoint that explained each of the photos. At the end of the powerpoint, it showed “will you marry me?” and when I looked at him, he was on bended knee with a beautiful ring in his hand. I was too much in shock to answer. He had to repeat the question and I finally nodded. 🙂
Thank you Michelle for sharing your lovely images with us, and congratulations on your engagement Carol and Andy! Good luck with the wedding planning! 🙂
