Jenn & Mike part 1: A Rainy Day Wedding and Baptism on the Beach

On this blessed Good Friday, I am honored to share a no-frills and incredibly heartfelt wedding that celebrated the couple’s commitment to one another and to God in front of the people they love. Amidst heavy rains and despite tornado warnings, they incorporated a baptism on the beach, evoking so much raw emotion and happy tears all around. No I wasn’t there but I could feel it in the photos and I know you will too.

Here’s the soaking wet but so-in-love Jenn and Mike right after they were pronounced husband and wife, beautifully captured by the fab Tasha Hergott of Red Bird Hills Photography who’s here to tell us more about the couple and their wedding:

I don’t even know where to start with these two?! Jenn is an in-cred-i-bly talented recording artist and writer who is, taking by storm, both the pop & country industries! She has become my most favorite artist on the market and I’m not just saying that because she was one of my brides — she’s downright good!  Mike is the easy-going, charming husband who spends his time supporting his lovely wife and running marathons at a super sonic speed! Last April, Jenn & Mike flew me to Florida where I had the most incredible and unforgettable experience photographing their wedding on the beach… which included: straight-line winds, tornado warnings (including warnings to stay off all beaches), sideways-rain, a whole slew of soaking wet guests who joined them on the beach, the two of them being baptized in the ocean DURING their ceremony, some of the most talented musicians, incredible emotion, AND a song written by Jenn’s brother, Jeff, for the two of them (needless to say, everyone had tears in their eyes)!  This experience with Mike, Jenn, their families & friends is one that I will never forget!

I think this photo completely gives us an idea of this twosome’s love. The beautiful Jenn is here to share their story with us:

Michael and I have been family friends since we were kids.  We grew up in the small town of Waconia, MN.  Moving on to different schools, our families drifted apart.  Michael went off to South Dakota State University to study Landscape Design and I went to Berklee College of Music in Boston to pursue my career as a recording artist.  Michael moved back to MN and became a part time fishing guide and I relocated to Nashville, TN to record my first album.  In 2009 I came back to Waconia to perform a CD release show which Michael attended.  We reconnected at the show and 11 months later we were engaged.

Michael and I both had the idea to incorporate a baptism in our wedding.  It was important to us to publicly acknowledge our commitment to God before committing our lives to one another.  Our hearts were set on the beautiful sunny beaches of Florida.  But the morning of our wedding was nothing but rain and tornado warnings.  Our loving family and friends encouraged us to come up with a plan “B”, but we were both compelled to stick to our plans of getting baptized on the beach.  So our guests huddled around us with their umbrellas on the beach, and through tears and laughter we got baptized and married in the rain.

I took the night off from singing, but my brother Jeff wrote and sang a song for our ceremony, and my producer/great friend Charlie performed “God Gave Me You,” and my beautiful friend Caitlin played her violin. Because of the rain all these performances were recorded for the video and the boys performed their’s at the dinner immediately following the ceremony.

Our wedding wasn’t exactly like we planned, but Gods plan was better than anything we could have dreamt of.  We are so thankful to our amazing family, friends, and vendors for making this happen on the beach rain or shine.

Congratulations, Jenn and Mike! This incredible baptism on the beach and stormy day wedding brought tears to my eyes the first time I saw the photos so huge thanks go to the lovely Tasha for sharing her stunning images with us. 🙂

But wait, there’s more! Come back on Monday for part 2 of this truly unique wedding celebration. Here’s a taste of what’s to come:
