Jenn & Mike part 2: The Varsity Theater Wedding Reception
Happy Easter Monday, everyone! I hope everyone’s week is off to a great start.
Last Friday, we witnessed Jenn & Mike’s beautiful, heart-tugging rainy day wedding and baptism on the beach. Thankfully the sun smiled on them the next day so they were able to take amazing photos by the beach in Florida before heading to Minnesota for a quirky, creative portrait session with the bridal party and a music-filled reception at the Varsity Theater.
I love how this shot represents their love as well as Jenn’s musician lifestyle at the same time. Tasha Hergott of Red Bird Hills Photography (who is responsible for all the stunning images on this page and on part 1!) remembers Jenn & Mike’s celebration with fondness:
Being it was a torrential downpour on the wedding day, Jenn, Mike & I got up early the following morning for a sunrise shoot before we all hopped on a plane back to Minnesota. These images have become some of my favorite to date! The day after we got back to Minnesota, we met up once again for a photo shoot with the entire wedding party and then made our way to their wedding reception at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis.
The whole experience with Jenn & Mike was awesome and I am honored to call them both friends!
*swoons* What a gorgeous pic of the beautiful couple.
(Seems that little kitty just casually sashayed his way into this shot but the result is adorable!)
Lovely Jenn is around to tell us more about their weekend wedding:
Our small intimate setting on the beach was in Florida on Thursday then we flew to Minnesota on Friday and our reception took place at The Varsity Theater in Minneapolis on Saturday night. It was fun to hang out in Minneapolis with our entire bridal party that day since some couldn’t make it to Florida.
Get ready to see some funky bridal party portraits!

More deets from Jenn:
We had our reception at a the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis because Michael and I are both music and theater lovers. We like to keep things casual so we wore Chuck Taylors and sunglasses at our reception and our cake topper had a fisherman on it because of Michael’s love of fishing.
Doesn’t Tasha take the most interesting portraits? Love this shot!
Jenn says the reception is where most of their guests — totaling around 250 — attended:
The Florida ceremony was shown on video at the reception before we were introduced as Mr. and Mrs. Ernst. At the reception my High School history teacher, who to this day lets me sing with his blues band (Traveled Ground) whenever I’m in town performed during the cocktail hour.
Fun, family, and friends, Jenn and Mike couldn’t ask for more for their reception and like she told me, “there was no worried details of the ceremony, it was just a big party day!”
Again, huge thanks go to the fab Tasha for sharing her beautiful images with us, and congratulations Jenn & Mike! Thank you for allowing us a peek into your awesome celebration!
