Katie & Nathan’s DIY Salt Spring Vineyards Wedding

Happy Monday everyone and welcome to another week filled with creative wedding inspiration! 🙂

Today’s featured couple Katie & Nathan had a picture-pretty wedding on a cliff with a breathtaking view of the ocean. The place happens to hold special meaning to them because it’s where Nathan grew up. Their lovely day was also filled to the brim with handmade rustic details that added intimate, personal touches to the celebration so better get your virtual pins ready because you’re definitely in for a visual treat!

All the gorgeous imagery you see on this page is courtesy of Karen McKinnon of Vancouver-based McKinnon Photography who captured the day so very beautifully. Here she is now with the details:

After Katie and the girls prepared at The Saltspring Island, (Saltspring Island BC, Canada) she joined her groom Nathan to say “I do” on a piece of undeveloped property that belongs to his father. Their vows were said on cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean, and they released doves into the blue sky. Their reception was held in a rustic beautiful community building which was once the comunity school house that Nathan attended as a child. Their reception was full of DIY flare, including signage, decorations and favors. The rustic room was lit sweetly and filled with hints of nature.

I absolutely love this shot of the stunning bride! Let’s get to know them a little better. Katie works in admin at UVIC in British Columbia and Nathan is in public works.  His family lives in Fanny Bay and Salt Spring Island where their beautiful wedding was held. In Katie’s own words:

Nathan proposed at the top of the waterfall at Mystic Beach on the Juan de Fuca Trail, which is a trail that means a lot to me personally.  I helped build the trail many years ago, and every beach/board-walk/eagle’s nest means something to me.

Loving everything yet? There’s much more eye candy to come! Katie and Nathan handmade almost all the decorations. One thing you’ll notice is that they incorporated a lot of “nature” elements into the eco-friendly details which included hand-painted wooden signs, moss-wrapped planters, place settings topped with fern leaves, among many others.

These hand-painted glasses, painted to match the fern leaves on the table settings, are such a great favor idea!
