Clara & Sam’s 5-Day Wedding and Camping Weekend (Part 2)

Happy Monday everyone! Last Friday I shared with you Clara & Sam’s Austrian-Australian love story and part 1 of their glorious 5-day camping & wedding weekend that took place somewhere in the outbacks of Melbourne. Today, get ready to see more awesome from this unique, intimate, and inspiring festival-themed celebration.

Here’s talented Vienna-based photographer Roland Voraberger of Photokino.at again to share what went on during days 3-5:

At the banquet we watched a beautiful movie with best wishes for the couple from Claras family in Austria and very touching speeches from the dads. The relatives in Austria would’ve loved to come to the wedding but it wasn’t possible for all of them to arrange such a long journey. After that the wedding party lasted until late at night and everybody had a lot of fun.

Sunday was very relaxing. We were able to sleep longer and after the breakfast (at midday ;-)) we did the couple-portraits with Clara and Sam. The sun was back and the couple was so relaxed and natural, and you can simply see the love between them. Sam and Clara you are such a great couple! We had a blast shooting with you. An  awesome couple, a sunny day and 2 minibikes next to the breath-taking nature…what more can I say? ;-) .

The rest of the day we improved our “stumps-skills” and also picked out some of the thousands of images from the past days. This “best of” selection were shown with a beamer to the guests in the evening. The pictureshow was accompanied by a really awesome live-vocal-music from Sam’s sister. It was such a moving event for me to see the couple, Claras sister Verena and some guests with tears in the eyes when they were watching our pictures. That’s the best feedback you can get as a photographer. Thank you all guys!!!

Day 3: Wedding Day (continued)

This photo wall displays the couple’s childhood pics — a great way to break the ice and get guests talking!

Cute and easy guestbook idea: leave Instax cameras in the reception area and have guests take their own photos and write messages on them!

Like I mentioned in part 1 of this fun & festive fete, the outpouring of love and help from their loved ones is simply overwhelming. Lovely Clara’s back to share a few more insights into their wedding:

We basically organized everything ourselves and had lots of help from friends and family. A friend, who is a chef and runs his own pizza shop helped us buy all the food for the entire 5 day party, good for about 80 people on the wedding day and around 30 to 60 on other nights.  We also worked with him in writing down a simple and tasty menu. It was fantastic! Everyone helped out in the kitchen with the cooking, washing of dishes… and it worked out very well. 🙂

I asked Clara about how long it took them to organize such a big event:

Hmm hard to say, we both aren’t really good in organizing things so it took quiet a while. 🙂 We rented the kids camp a few months before and most of the organizing stuff happened at the last minute (like a week before the wedding). That was a little bit stressful. 🙂 But the planning process was kind of natural, every now and then we would have an idea pop up in our heads and we would just write them down. Whenever we had spare time we would buy the stuff (mostly from e-bay). 🙂 The hard bit was organizing the room assignments and where people were gonna stay… but it all happened naturally, wherever help was needed everybody was happy to “work” for a few hours…

Clara also shares:

We actually got married a year before “the official wedding”… we went down the beach with 2 of our friends and got married. 🙂 We didn’t wanna invite anyone else ’cause my family couldn’t come over from Austria so we promised them that we would have a “big wedding” the following year…

We were also really lucky to have Roli and Dani at our wedding — they did such an amazing job :)!

Since the weather was much more cooperative the following day, they were able to take lots of beautiful couple portraits…

These two obviously have so much love for one another and the 5-day wedding couldn’t have been a more perfect way to celebrate their union! Of course, not everything went without a hitch:

Quite a lot of things went wrong: the band told us they couldn’t play anymore like 4 days before the wedding (and it turned out they have another gig booked … long story) so there was no time to hire another one; we couldn’t find a cook to coordinate all the meals — thank goodness a friend took over that role; the weather wasn’t that great (but apparently rain should bring good luck 🙂 ); some people didn’t turn up,  some changed the days they were coming for last minute and we had already organized food for them. That made it quite complicated and Sam and I were just flat out but after a few beers we were able to finally relax 🙂

However I think all these things made our wedding completely  ours, ’cause in the end we all got together, everyone helped out and lots of friendships from both families and friends developed. We really enjoyed Weddingfest!

Now we are looking forward for Babyfest 20??!  🙂

(Haha, I hope Project Babyfest is going well for you guys! 😉 )

  1. I think this is my favourite featured wedding so far. Love the informality of the shots and the warm, relaxed feel of the whole event. My fiance and I are also planning a country wedding, with camping, in rural Victoria early next year, so it’s reassuring to see that it can be done! 🙂
