Clara & Sam’s 5-Day Wedding and Camping Weekend (Part 1)

Clara is Austrian, Sam is Australian. To celebrate their families and cultures coming together, they came up with a 5-day “wedding fest” in a camping ground a short drive off Melbourne. Since it had a festival mood, their wedding was filled with merriment, activity, food, drinks, art, music, and love, love, love! Everything was homespun and the best thing is that you will get to see some of the details and decor being made right in the photos below!

Aren’t they the sweetest?! We have Roland Voraberger and his partner Dani of Photokino.at to thank for all the beautiful images on this page! Let me give you a backstory. Roland and Dani are Vienna-based photographers who love to travel. Clara was actually their next door neighbor when she was still living in Vienna. She left for Australia and stayed there for a year and it was there where she met the love of her life — Sam, of course. 🙂 The next time Roland and Dani saw her, she was on a visit to Vienna with Sam who asked them if they could shoot their upcoming wedding! Roland has a few more details to share:

Clara decided to migrate to Australia so she could share her life with Sam. Sam visited us in Vienna one year ago… it was the first time we met each other and I thought he was a really funny and nice guy. Dani and I spent nearly 2 weeks at their home in Melbourne during our journey. We spent new years eve together and so we got to know the “real” Australian spirit! ;-).

The wedding in the outbacks of Melbourne was one of the most fun and interesting and experiences we’ve ever had. Our pictures from the 5-day-wedding-festival were very important for the other family members of Clara who are in Austria. Her family (even her grandma who made her wedding dress) also spent the time in the wedding camp.

It was always a big dream for us to make such a big travel and when Clara invited us to the wedding it was our kick off! ;-).

That chalkboard drawing of Sam is super cool! So are you digging the DIY vibe of this wedding yet? We can clearly see everyone pitching out to help the couple!

Totally loving the casual, laid-back atmosphere of this wedding / family fest. Here’s the lovely Clara to tell us quickly how she and Sam met as well as why they chose to have a 5-day wedding:

After I finished my photography studies in Austria I bought a one way ticket to Australia. Since I was a little girl it was always my dream to go to Australia one day. I stayed for about 6 weeks with Sam’s mum and her lovely family, before I met Sam.

We met for the first time in Alice Springs at the Fink Dessert Race in June and it was on. 🙂 After 10 amazing days he flew back to Melbourne and I continued traveling for another 2 months before I returned to Melbourne. We had another 3 months together and we both knew that we’ve found the person we wanna spend the rest of our lives with.

My visa ran out and I went back to Austria. After 3 months Sam came to meet my family… and then take me home with him. 🙂

We decided to have a 5-day wedding so that our families and friends could spend some time together and can go home with a feeling that they all know each other. We also choose this 5-day wedding because we wanted to spend time with our families and friends  — not just one day where we probably won’t even have time to speak to all of the guests.

We found this amazing scout camp (Camp Sokil) in the middle of the Great Otway National Park near Anglesea and decided to hold our “wedding fest” there.

Clara’s dress was handmade by her grandma who actually made the long Austria-Australia journey to be at their wedding … how sweet is that?

We took the measurements about a year ago and I just explained what I had in my mind:  simple, light and something suitable for hot days… I was so curious about what it would look like and if it would still fit and it turned out perfectly, even better than I expected!

It rained pretty hard that day but thankfully there was a brief respite and they were able to wed out in the open.
