Jax & Michael’s Eclectic Bring-Your-Own-Awesome Wedding
It’s the start of another week and I’ve got another bunch of fantastic, non-cookie-cutter wedding inspiration for you starting with this whimsical, and 100% customized-to-the-couple celebration. Jax and Michael had a most awesome ceremony and party in a cozy art gallery in Denver. Before the actual wedding they took some really awesome portraits in a nearby amusement park. Yes, you will see the word awesome more than 5x in this post because, well, the event really was that awesome… in fact, their theme revolved around that very adjective!
Believe me, this stunning photo is just a taste of what’s to come and you are witnessing it today thanks to the talented Kira Friedman of Harper Point Photography. Here’s what she had to say about the event:
They met on MySpace! Jax’s had a video posted of herself in the snow. Michael saw it, messaged her and the rest is history. These two are super eclectic and did their own flowers and decor. The bride is an artist and had her original pieces hanging in the gallery during the wedding. The carnival is an old school classic and we took photos before the event that day.
I LOVED this quirky and unique non-traditional DIY wedding the moment it landed in my TBL inbox and you’ll see why in a bit.
Please meet the super cool duo. According to the lovely bride, she and Mike are a “fun loving couple of crazies”. Jax is an artist and Mike is project manager for a woodworking company. They found each other on “MySpace” of all places. (Oh the internet, what a wonderful thing! )
Three short years later as they sat on the side of a hill watching Ol’ Faithful erupt, Mike proposed. Their wedding theme? It was BYOA (Bring Your Own Awesome) filled with DIY/vintage loveliness/art and of course awesome!
Aren’t they the cutest ever and don’t you just adore their style? I’m totally coveting Jax’s tea length dress with the funky grey sash, fabric covered buttons and double bow! As for Michael’s ivy cap, pinstriped suit, and bow tie look + spectacles? All kinds of charming.
The bridal party was decked out in tres cool garb as well… case in point below.
Their couple portraits show off so much of their fun and crazy personalities! Brace yourselves dear readers for a whole lot more…
Didn’t I tell you their portraits were gorgeous?? It was too difficult to narrow them down so I’m posting ALL of them. 🙂 Jax is here to tell us how they made their celebration their own:
I wanted to focus on the 3 F’s friends, family and fun. Mike’s grandma, mother and sister all made the jalapeño jelly we had for our guests’ gift. Our friends helped make our cupcakes, bridesmaids flowers, the grey sash I wore with my gown and even the napkins at our reception. The fun was taking our wedding party to Lakeside Amusement Park for our photos! I even walked down the aisle to “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey. The whole day was casual and awesome!
The vintage bride & groom polaroids on the cupcakes are such a nice touch!
Pops of bright color everywhere! Love it!
A burger with all the fixins for dinner? Yes please!
So much fun in this shindig! Jax has some advice to share:
DIY is your best friend when you’re a bride. Start collecting things for your wedding now! You can always edit later. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Thank you so much Kira for sending this refreshingly different wedding my way, and congratulations Jax & Mike! Here’s wishing you a totes awesome life together. 🙂
