Today I would like to introduce you to Sue Smith and her Etsy store Comic Salvage where she sells handmade accessories made with upcycled vintage comic books! Whether or not you’re planning a comic book or superhero wedding, these totally rad comic-themed jewelry will surely bring a smile to your face. (I was sold the moment Sue showed me her super cool products which you will see in a bit.) You’ll also get a chance to win a pair of her best-selling puzzle links for free! Make sure to read this post through the end to find out how.
First, let’s get to know the artist and her business. Here’s Sue on her inspiration for and the beginnings of Comic Salvage.
I was inspired to create a home business when I started having kids. I graduated college with a degree in graphic design, so I’ve always been a creative person. I loved reading comic books as a child. It wasn’t until I started noticing the amount of beat up comic books at flea markets that the idea came into my head. I really wanted to preserve the artwork in those books. I only use vintage comics because I love the illustrations in them. I also run them past my husband to make sure there is no real value in them!
Highly recommended Comic Salvage accessories that double as geekalicious gifts for your groom and groomsmen:
Comic Salvage’s Popular Vintage Comic Puzzle Links, a pair of cuff links that fit together like a puzzle to reveal one awesome picture. (US$27.00)
Money Clips, featuring a 1X2 & comic book scene preserved under a piece of glass. (US$25.00)
And very new to the store (launched just a few minutes ago!) — Vintage Comic Tie Clips, a subtle way for your groom & groomsmen to express their fanboyhood.
Sue’s collection is not limited to the guys in your wedding party — comic book loving girls can also partake in the fun! You can even ask Sue to make customized sets for you:
One of the most enjoyable things about my job is talking to my customers. I love hearing their stories about who they are giving the item to, or how that person reacted when they opened it. My absolute favorite is creating custom groomsmen sets. A lot of times the couple will show me a professional picture of the guys showing off their cuff links! I even did bridesmaids necklaces featuring Lois Lane, Gwen Stacy & Pepper Potts. I also offer custom name jewelry. Anything you can imagine can be put on the jewelry. Some like their full name, a nickname, your children’s name, initials or a special date!
More items I found (and fell in love with) on Comic Salvage:
Top row: “Thoom” recycled vintage comic book necklace, “Vintage Boys” comic book earrings
Bottom row: “She’s My Wife” comic book ring, “Great Thunder” comic book necklace
If you spied anything you like on this page, drop Sue a line via Comic Salvage on Etsy.
And now, as mentioned above Sue is generously giving away a free pair of her Batman and Robin puzzle links to one lucky Poptastic Bride reader — free shipping to anywhere in the world included! Just to refresh your memory, to the left is a pic of the cuff links again.
