Azadeh & Omid’s Colorful & Culture-Rich Dabney Gardens Wedding
Happy Friday! Today we have a beautiful and laid-back wedding brimming with beautiful colors, amazing textures, delicious Mediterranean flavors, and of course unbridled love. Azadeh and Omid had a traditional Persian marriage ceremony at the groom’s alma mater and they infused it completely with their fun personalities and fabulous sense of style. The result is a feast for the senses, as you will see shortly.
Meet Azadeh, Omid, and their furry pal Gypsy. This utterly beautiful feature is courtesy of the talents of Chloe Moore Photography (whose lovely work has previously graced these pages via Tara & Matt’s Classic Americana Wedding, parts 1 & 2). Here’s how Chloe fondly remembers the day:
Azadeh and Omid celebrated their love and made a lifetime commitment among friends and family at Dabney Gardens in the California Institute of Technology. The day started at Nori’s Eco Salon in Encino where Azadeh had her hair and make-up done by the same close family friend who did her mother’s hair and make-up on her parent’s wedding day! Omid arrived at the salon to accompany his bride to the ceremony and the pair spent the entirety of the day at each others’ sides (and their dog Gypsy made a brief appearance also!). The family gathered around the traditional sofreh to support the bride and groom as they made their promises and exchanged rings. And of course, there was lots and lots of dancing!
Please brace yourselves for a load of delightful eye candy!
Isn’t everything just gorgeous??? Well it’s also time to get to know the lovely bride & groom a little better. Over to you, Azadeh:
Omid and I met during a friend’s gathering at Huntington Beach. I was always attracted to intellect in a man, but what I loved about my husband-to-be was his humble attitude towards nature and science. We went to Malibu beach for our first date and spent hours watching the ocean, enthralled by its magnificent and peaceful demeanor. We share similar passions in life and continue to spend hours discussing a topic of interest, but our personalities are very different. Omid is calm, grounded and patient, whereas I am sensitive, energetic and always on a mission to get things done! We complement each other perfectly and our lives have become more purposeful, beautiful, and our paths more clear since we met three years ago.
Our wedding was an opportunity to celebrate the three things that mattered the most in our lives, our love for each other, our wonderful family and friends (including our dog, Gypsy) and the beauty of nature. We were fortunate to have access to a small garden on Omid’s university campus where we could add a personal touch to all aspects of the wedding.
And what about that dreamy, vintage-y tea-length dress, huh? LOVE. Azadeh bought it off Ellana Couture on Etsy and shares a few more tidbits:
I wore a gorgeous dupioni silk dress in the ’50s style that fit my personality perfectly. The short length of the dress allowed me to dance for hours without feeling dragged down! My hair and make up were done by the same talented artist who had prepared my mother for her wedding 35 years ago!
(So awesome about the hair and makeup artist!)
Awww, what a sweet father-daughter moment! Azadeh’s back to tell us more about their commitment ceremony:
Omid and I are from Iran and much of our personal taste goes back to how we were raised. We blended a combination of cheerful colors for the setting, a symbolic spread for the actual wedding ceremony, and fresh fruit baskets to represent the celebratory nature of our wedding in harmony with the outdoors. We maintained an informal theme for everything including the dinner, which was served as a buffet.
These puppy-lovey portraits are adorable!
By the way, I just love how they encouraged involvement from their children guests!
Azadeh shares a funny behind-the-scenes moment:
An unexpected surprise was when it started raining half way through the wedding, which is unheard of in the month of September in Pasadena (the weather forecast had predicted a sunny sky that morning!). Guests were initially confused as how to react, but Omid grabbed a mop and started dancing and cleaning the dance floor at the same time, which got all the guys to go out and start dancing behind him! It was hilarious and kept the dancing going all night!
Parting insights and words of advice from the couple:
There was a lot of pressure from some vendors we met initially to go with the style that was “in” or more expensive. Omid and I have a unique taste and insisted on a style that best represented our personalities. We also realized very quickly that having the most expensive vendor did not mean the best quality. All of our vendors had reasonable rates, and provided us with the wedding of our dreams. We also learned not to allow any unforeseen surprises to ruin this special day for us. Ultimately, everyone (including the bride and groom) only remembers the fun parts and that will bring a smile to your face for a lifetime!
Huge thanks to Chloe for sharing her amazing images with us. and congratulations to Azadeh and Omid! Thank you for allowing us a peek into your gorgeous wedding day. Here’s wishing you a lifetime of married bliss!
