Joy & Rick’s Red Hot and Glamorous Neon Museum Wedding
Hello and welcome to another week of funky wedding inspiration! Gorgeous couple Joy and Rick’s wedding began with a private ceremony at the Artisan Hotel in Las Vegas. The guest list only consisted of immediate family — in fact it was the bride’s mom who officiated the marriage. The day culminated with a fun, relaxed, and red hot photo session at the Neon Museum complete with some pretty awesome iconic pop culture references.
I love how this shot shows how in love they are! The spectacular photos are courtesy of the talents of JoAnn and Jason Marino of Imagine Photography, definitely no strangers to this site as they gave us one of our first ever fully loaded features, Audrey & Chris’ Rock and Roll Wedding. When Jason asked me if I wanted to see their latest wedding, I immediately said yes because knowing them, I knew it would be stunning. As you will see below, it certainly didn’t disappoint. Here are the Marinos with an overview of the day:
Joy is a hair stylist in Kingman, AZ. Rick is a super-secret lab technician at the Harley Davidson Proving Grounds outside of Kingman, AZ. The two met when a close friend of Joy’s was looking for a “guy” for her widowed mother on Match.com! The wedding was different because it was more of an elopement than a wedding. Though there were the usual things like flowers, hair, makeup, photography, a ceremony with a few close friends and family, etc.; it was small in scale but big on details, and that’s what Joy & Rick wanted to remember most. That’s why they chose to make the photography the central theme of the wedding. They decided that devoting a large part of the day to having great photographic memories would be a fun way to do things different. Starting at 10AM, we were on scene shooting every second of their day from getting ready until leaving after dinner to start their lives together. And in between, a stop at the world-famous Neon Museum in Las Vegas to shoot an incredible series of photos with all of the vintage neon signs of a Las Vegas long forgotten. Those photos turned out to be pretty iconic, and we are proud to showcase them here at Poptastic Bride!
And I’m honored to showcase your photos here as always, JoAnn and Jason! Here we go:
Didn’t I say the photos were spectacular? We’re also lucky to have Joy on board to tell us in detail about how she and Rick met:
My close friend had signed her widowed mother up on Match.com. While I was eating dinner at my friend’s house she was checking up on her mother’s activity on her “profile.” Me being single, we got the idea to switch to a younger age bracket and see what the men in my age group were like. I was impressed, so the next day I created my own “profile.” I had seen Rick’s profile several times and was intrigued by his carefree approach to his listing. He didn’t seem to be concerned with appearances; he had photos up of him doing all of the things he loved, never mind the fact that you couldn’t make out his face in a single one. If he wasn’t blasting down a hill on a mountain bike in one picture, he was wearing glasses or a motorcycle helmet in another. He seemed adventurous and fun, so I sent him a message. A few days and several messages later he asked if he could call me to make sure I was in fact a 27 year old woman and not some internet scam. From day one we spoke on the phone for hours at a time and eventually decided it was time to meet one another. That meeting turned into our first date, and true to his profile, it was in an outdoorsy location in the beautiful Hualapai Mountains. After a daylong hike, we shared our first kiss overlooking the beautiful valley below.
And now we have Rick to tell us about the proposal:
I had planned on asking Joy to marry me while hiking in the same spot where we had our first date. She was having a rather busy day at work and had a few unexpected clients with some hair color emergencies that needed fixing so she had to cancel on our hike. I couldn’t take the excitement any longer. At this point I had been in possession of the ring for an entire week! Later that night, as Joy was getting into bed, I snuck over and had Joy’s son Forrest get up out of bed, and gave him the ring box to give to her. Instead of just handing it to her he opened the box and with great excitement and exclaimed “it’s a ring and you are getting married!” He then asked if he was going to get a ring as well. I told him if he really wanted one we would get him one. He said “no, as long as mommy dresses like a strawberry at your wedding.” She said yes.
Just how cute was that story??! Here they are with the adorable Forrest.
Totally loving these fun portraits parodying pop culture references!
As for the honeymoon:
We plan to take our honeymoon on our one year anniversary. We will spend two nights at the InterContinental Tahiti, then five nights in the MaiTai Lapita Village of Huahine.
Huge thanks to JoAnne and Jason for sending their fantastic photos my way, and congratulations to Joy and Rick! Thank you for sharing your day with us. Have fun on your honeymoon!
