Catherine & Adam’s Crazy-Cool and Cinematic Abandoned Rail Car E-session

Abandoned Rail Car E-session

Today’s e-session is a perfect example of what happens when the photographer and couple completely see eye to eye. Fun-loving Catherine & Adam wanted something over the top and fabulous and the talented Todd Surber of King Street Studios (also responsible for this gorgeous day-after shoot) delivered! Here’s Todd with the behind-the-scenes info:

Catherine and Adam are very fun and wide open. She is very quirky and you can tell he loves to just let her be and completely adores her for her natural eccentricities. I spoke with them briefly about what they would be wearing and shared the idea of shooting in a machine shop near my old studio. This was located on the Old Naval base here in Charleston, which is now very run down and filled with large industrial warehouses. The warehouse is so huge, and light pores in from all over the place. I like depth in my images, so I thought this could be a great place to create a very editorial style shoot with them. So we started there, then used some other areas in walking distance, and finally ended up at an abandoned rail car rotting in the middle of a field. I’m not always completely sure how the juxtaposition of a shoot like this will end up — her wearing a tutu and him in a tux with Birkenstocks in a industrial/run down environment, but I feel like as long as the couple is genuinely into it, and look comfortable in the surroundings, it sells!

LOVE the cinematic quality of these photos! This one in particular with the sunlight streaming through the window is quite magical. I’m also really loving the contrast between their formal outfits and the rundown environment!

What an adorable pair, and don’t you just love their quirky style? Here’s the lovely Catherine to tell us more about themselves:

I’m a massage therapist and Adam manages at Verizon wireless.  We met at a Christmas party in 2008.  While I loved him instantly, we stayed friends until the following Christmas when we finally started dating.  We got engaged the Christmas after that and married the Christmas after that!  If you can’t tell, we love Christmas! 🙂

Catherine’s back to tell us how the concept for this fab shoot came about:

We had the best time taking those pictures!  We knew for our engagement pictures that we wanted something different that would stand out from all of other pictures out there… something over the top.  And nothing says over the top like an enormous tutu…lol.  Adam got a tux, we told Todd we wanted something crazy and cool and he took it from there.  Todd came up with the amazing locations.  We could not have been happier with how they turned out.  We loved the idea of being dressed to the nines in rather disheveled places.  It fit our style perfectly.
