Amy & Neal’s Hot Pink & Black Stars, Guitars & Pinwheels Beach Wedding
Amy is a raver. She’s also been called StarGirl since the early ’90s. Neal is a rock musician. So what do you get when you combine the two? A beautiful and undeniably FUN celebration of love filled with laughter, hot pink & black stars and guitars, pinwheels, puffy flowers, and glitter everywhere! Oh… have I mentioned that it took place on a beach?
These two are so. in. love. Their happiness completely shines through every moment stunningly captured by Charo & Mike of Charo Photo. I already know that Charo is an amazing photographer (see her previously featured weddings + Behind the Lens feature) so whenever she has something for me, I get giddy with excitement! Here’s part of what she told me about it:
Neal cried throughout the ceremony along with pumping his fist in the air out of pure joy. He carried a good luck charm on a chain, with flowers from his father’s funeral in his right hand during the whole ceremony and there are shots of him laughing, tears in his eyes, fist in the air, good luck charm hanging from his clenched fist… absolutely amazing stuff. Amy is this gorgeous, punk rock club girl with amazing style and an incredible look and she totally pimped everything out in her favorite color and with all the kitsch anyone could handle. There was TONS of dancing, with some unique music selections. It was the most joyful wedding party I’ve ever witnessed!
Without even seeing the photos, I knew I would love it — and true enough I did and I know you will too. Please enjoy!
Can’t wear them myself but how rad are those transparent platform sandals adorned (and stuffed) with pink flowers?!
Love her high-low gown! It’s not so visible here but her pink necklace reads “Forever”
SO feeling the emotion in this shot!
Are you feeling the love yet??? There’s so much more to come because this celebration is just so full of joy! Luckily we get to meet the gorgeous couple too. Here’s Amy with their story:
Neal and I met in LA in 2009. I was 37, he was 39 … we were both ready to find love with the right person since we both had spent a lot of time and energy on all the wrong people. 😉
So once we met, things moved pretty quickly. I moved in with him after about 6 months and by the time we’d been together a year, we were plotting our escape from LA. We couldn’t wait to move somewhere quieter, more affordable, less hectic … and next thing ya know, we had packed up a moving truck and were road tripping to the sunny beaches of Wilmington, North Carolina. And we haven’t looked back since.
In May this year, we got married on the beach in Wilmington — with all of our 75 guests traveling from California, Texas, and Virginia to celebrate our happiness with us. May 19, 2012 was absolutely magical and perfect and overwhelming in how completely f@cking awesome it was!!!!!!!! 🙂
(I purposely left all the exclamation points in Amy’s quote intact so you can see how excited she is!)
Loving the casual black outfits for the bridal party which they can totally wear again and again on various occasions! As you can see this wedding is brimming with personal touches so I think it would be best if I let Amy take over from this point on…:
One word to describe our wedding: FUN!!!!!!!! All we really wanted for our wedding was to throw a super fun party for all our favorite people in the world, and that’s what we did!! From the beach — which was the only thing both of us absolutely had to have! A beach wedding … and we had no backup plan! It rained all week and was threatening all day … and then at around 3:30 pm, the sun came blazing out and it was absolutely perfect! My phone started blowing up with “the sun’s out!!!” texts! By 5:30 pm ceremony time, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky!
To the ceremony, which was super fast and fun, filled with high kicks and WOOT WOOTS!!!!!!! Yep, “Can I get a WOOT WOOT” was written into the ceremony by our amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing officiant — and dear friend — Etirsa Inniss. I’ve known her for 20 years, and Neal adores her. She’s a spiritual healer and all around incredible person, so she was the natural choice to marry us. I’m so glad she said yes! She cried when I asked her … and what she did for us couldn’t have been more perfect.
The ceremony was followed by a cocktail reception on the pier with a guy playing the steel drums — I LOVE steel drums!! Everyone was partying and having a great time.
But it wasn’t until you got upstairs to the reception that you really saw that this was Amy & Neal’s wedding!! Someone told me later that when she saw her table with the glitter star wand table number and all the glitter covering every inch, she thought: “If Amy were a table, it would be this!” Tossed among all the glitter and star confetti were personalized guitar picks with Amy & Neal inscribed on one side … stars on the other. So I guess that was kinda a theme that came out as we were choosing all our decorations and party favors: Stars and Guitars!!!
The decorations were fun and cartoonish and you couldn’t possibly have a bad time in that room … impossible! 😉
It looked more like a 5 year old’s birthday party than a wedding … so I wasn’t surprised — I was thrilled! — when guests were dancing with the pink puffy flowers I had glued onto dowels we painted green. And when people walked by with the pink glitter clip-on bobble head ladybugs in their hair …. I was so happy!! It was just so much fun!!!
On the cupcake tower — with gorgeous cupcakes of pink, black, and white — were toppers in the shapes of stars and guitars. When the Raver and the Rocker find each other and decide to get married, this is the kind of wedding you get. 😉
Neal is a musician so I had this amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing guitar shaped groom’s cake made for him at the Rehearsal Dinner with an airbushed Jim Morrison on it… AmaZeballs!!!!!!!!!! Cindy at Imaginary Cakes is so INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! She made the cupcakes, too!!!
We wanted more fun and whimsical than stuffy and traditional so we did exactly what we wanted instead of what we thought other people might want us to do or would expect us to do. I guess being a 40-year old bride helped me do that … we wanted the wedding to be us! And not necessarily what a wedding is “supposed to be” … and we got it! We did it! It was amazing. 🙂
By the end, everyone was exhausted yet still so excited — and covered with glitter! Everyone … covered with glitter. I was still finding star confetti weeks later and friends were calling from California asking how stars had made it into their suitcases.
So my advice to everyone would be to just know who you are and do that. 🙂
Thank you, thank you Charo for sending your breathtaking images of this absolutely fabulous wedding my way, and congratulations Amy & Neal! Thank you for giving us a VIP pass into your awesome party. I sincerely wish you a blissful married life. 🙂
