Mailena & Justin’s Downtown Arkansas E-session (with a slight travel theme)

University ofArkansas campus e-session

Fayetteville, Arkansas is home to Mailena and Justin so they held their e-session in locations that mean a lot to them as a couple including their alma mater, the UofA. They are also big travelers so they incorporated a hint of a travel theme into their shoot. Here’s Ashley Landers of Ashley + David Photography to share a little more info on this fun and sweet sesh:

I was excited when Mailena and Justin announced their engagement! Mailena has been a friend since junior high, so naturally, I was thrilled for her. 🙂 She and Justin were friends all throughout their school years…and officially started dating in college. They’re both really laid-back and I feel like they just complement one another well!

For their engagement session, we chose locations that reflected Fayetteville/their home. (They’d recently returned to Arkansas after living in Chicago for a year or two.) So we mainly shot the session downtown and on the University of Arkansas campus (their alma mater.) Mailena and Justin also looovvee to travel so they brought a couple of masks and a globe to reflect that.

It’s time we met this lovely twosome. Here’s the pretty Mailena to tell us more about themselves:

Justin and I have known each other for a long time. We actually graduated from the same high school, but aren’t high school sweethearts. We have been friends and had the same close-knit friend group since high school. It wasn’t until college did our friendship grow into a romantic relationship, though. The first 5 years of our relationship were spent chasing each other from Fayetteville, AR, to Japan back to AR and then to Chicago, our first home together. We now live back in Fayetteville, our alma mater, and closer to family. We love to travel, spend time with family and friends, be outdoors and spend time with our dog, Sammy.Justin is a huge romantic — nothing is ever small or simple. When he first said “I love you” it was atop a mountain we loved to camp at. When he proposed it was on a chartered sailboat on Lake Michigan underneath fireworks.

Justin is a National Account Manager – U.S. and Canada, for Merisant, and I’m the Director of Marketing and Communications for Collective Bias. Justin is working on his MBA right now, while I’m teaching as an adjunct instructor at the University of Arkansas.

Just how sweet are they? Here’s Mailena once again to share the story behind this delightful e-shoot:

Having lived in Fayetteville during our college years and beginning of our relationship, it holds a deep place in our hearts. The different locations represent us as a couple and as individuals – showing us in downtown Fayetteville, where we like to enjoy the Farmer’s Market and unique restaurants, or on campus where we graduated from. The masks were actually Justin’s idea. I asked him what props can we bring that are representative of us? We grabbed these masks from our wall of masks, because they were the first ones we bought. They’re handmade from S. Korea. We went to S. Korea to visit a family we met during college and they helped us choose and get a good price for them. We have a mask from almost every country we’ve been to. The globe was significant because we’ve been to so many countries and hope to continue that throughout our married life.
