Cynthia & Perry’s Modern Yellow and Grey Eglinton Grand Wedding
Apologies for not posting a real wedding / engagement shoot yesterday, I was feeling under the weather and pretty much spent the day in bed. To make up for it I’m posting not one but two features today! First up is this modern and oh-so-beautiful wedding dotted with funky fresh yellow and grey details in a majestic art deco venue in Ontario!
We have Toronto-based Lew D’Souza of Engaging Images to thank for this beautiful submission and here he is with the event’s back story:
A giant monkey! That’s the first thing I saw as I stepped into Perry’s condominium. “There’s a story behind him”, said Perry when he noticed me staring quizzically at the large, plush primate. “Cynthia saw him in a Winners store in Montreal a few months ago…she sounded quite taken with him so I knew I had to get him for her!”. Perry was recently in Montreal and visited the same Winners location. The monkey was still there. A quick plane ride back to Toronto and the monkey now has a new home.
The weather forecast for the past several days had threatened thundershowers. So far, so good I thought as bright sunlight beamed through the windows overlooking a large construction project. We grabbed a few shots of the guys – including an image of their epic socks!…and then made a quick exit – we had a Bride to shoot and the day was moving forward. We arrived at the One King West hotel for a few quick photos of Cynthia and the girls. Excitement was building as we left the hotel room, heading down to the lobby where the groomsmen were waiting to pick them up. A wedding at Casa Loma is a wedding in Camelot; Perry the Handsome Prince and Cynthia, his Princess Bride. The Ceremony was held in the Conservatory, a gorgeous room with vaulted ceilings, very large windows, and a sky light that has to be seen to be believed. Vows were exchanged in front of a beautiful, indoor water fountain that was surrounded by greenery and flowers. The reception at the Eglinton Grand was amazing. It included a Candy Bar, Popcorn Machine, Photo Booth and other items that really kept their guests entertained. This wedding had it all. A prince, a princess, a castle….and a giant monkey.
How lovely do they look?
So loving the quirky striped socks in different colors!
Let’s meet the handsome twosome. Cynthia (my namesake!) is here to tell us more about herself and Perry:
We’ve been together for six years and were engaged for a year and a half before getting married. I think our personalities compliment each other really well. We’re constantly sharing laughs and are each other’s biggest fans. I planned most of the wedding by myself (I’m known as somewhat of a control freak) and Perry was very supportive throughout the entire process.
From this point on I will let Cynthia take over so we can see their lovely celebration through her eyes:
Our wedding was elegant and fun. I wouldn’t say that I had a theme per se, but I liked that our venues were historic landmarks in Toronto and offered a nostalgic feel for the day. Our ceremony was held at Casa Loma, Toronto’s landmark castle. It was absolutely beautiful. It’s a popular location for photo shoots and attracts a lot of tourists.
Our wedding reception was held at the Eglinton Grand – which is one of Toronto’s oldest movie theatres that was converted into a venue space. I think the venue was very unique and was the perfect backdrop for our festivities.
Our wedding colours were grey and yellow and I incorporated the colours into the bridal party’s attire, flowers, linens and even wedding favours (French macarons, my favourite treat!) to give everything a cohesive feel.
Having attended half a dozen wedding shows and being an avid watcher of TLC (and all shows wedding related), I knew I wanted to include as many elements as possible to make the celebration memorable.
Playing on the Eglinton Grand theme, we had a popcorn machine during the cocktail reception and I set up my own candy bar. I had a photo booth for the guests to take pictures in and even coordinated a line dance for the guests. Since we’re movie buffs, we made use of the movie screen and not only had an intro video for our bridal party, but a slide show and same day edit highlighting the day’s events for our guests.
(Here’s the link to their same-day edit video)
I always thought (and now know) that planning a wedding is a lot of work (it’s no wonder couples are usually engaged for a year or more). I think it’s important to do research but not to overwhelm yourself with selections. I absolutely loved Etsy. I purchased my wedding invitations, hair accessories, bridesmaids’ gifts and candy bags from different vendors across North America.
Thank you so much Lew for sending this gorgeous wedding my way, and congratulations Cynthia and Perry! Thank you for sharing your special day with all of us.
