Dark Romance: Gothic Wedding Inspiration

gothic wedding inspiration

Halloween is still in session here on Poptastic Bride and today we have a dark and dreamy alternative wedding inspiration shoot with a gothic 1800s feel from Patrick Hadley Photography, a husband and wife photographer / graphic designer duo (Patrick shoots while his wife Trisha designs and edits the pics). It was actually Trisha who spotted my call for “Gothic Lite” submissions and when she showed me sneaks of this shoot, I was floored. You’ll see why in a moment.

This styled shoot was photographed somewhere in the sticks of Michigan and the inspiration for it came after Trisha purchased a few vintage books from the basement of an antiques store. Here she is with the rest of the story:

I got the books for office decoration because I loved their weathered, cloth covers. When I took them out of the bag and stacked them upright, I was like, “Hey, that’s kind of a cool color palette.” I thought the colors would mesh well with a dark-themed shoot. I am a sucker for the Victorian period look too, so bam, there ya go! I am attracted to gothic looks in some ways, but I too, lean on the “Gothic Light” end of the spectrum. I wanted the theme to contain some of that, but be dark and romantic, not necessarily evil. 🙂

The male model plays violin and brought his as a prop. We borrowed a horse (named Lance) from a friend. (My husband Patrick has a phobia of horses, so forcing him to shoot with them is always enjoyable for me, ha!) I designed the save the date and 90% of everything is DIY by yours truly. Some of the wardrobe accessories are by Adomaitis Antiques. I stole that creepy raven bird off of my sister’s fireplace Halloween display but am pretty sure you can get them at Michael’s or any craft store. Most of the other accessories are thrift store finds. Cupcakes and cakes are by Legally Baked.
