Kelly & Ryan’s Chic & Modern Yellow and Grey Wedding
Kelly and Ryan wanted a wedding that combined both modern and vintage warm feelings. They peppered their celebration with cheery contemporary yellow and grey elements — as seen on the invites and stationery, flowers, and the whimsical wedding cake they designed themselves (trust me, the sight of it will make you smile!). They also wanted it to be comfortable, social, fun and filled with love and it turned out perfectly! It was a lovely early fall evening with tons of delicious food, music, and friends & family. Before I show you the wedding, here’s Karen Feder Photography, responsible for the beautiful images on this page, with the twosome’s backstory:
It never intended to happen (well it really never does!) Ryan was in his hum-drum of every day life at the office, when by chance he met Kelly. She was kind-hearted and had many of the same interests as he did. After a couple of months of passing – by chance – at the office, the two decided to go out for drinks and ended up talking for 4-5 hours. A few days later Ryan called Kelly for their official first date. Not too long after that, the couple planned a trip up to northern Minnesota to view the changing fall leaves. A year later they decided to go on that same trip and on the first night Ryan went out for “groceries” and decorated the bonfire pit at the resort, got a fire going and tried to calm his nerves while Kelly was unpacking in their room not knowing what was going to happen next! When Ryan came back, he escorted her down to the pit and proposed!
Don’t you just love the stationery?! So chic and modern!
Just how adorable was their first look? Let’s get to know the couple a little bit better — here’s the lovely Kelly:
Ryan and I met at work a little over 2 years ago. We had a lot in common, are both introverted and liked to do the same things… be outdoors, work around the house, try new restaurants, etc. We live with our two dogs (westies, Oliver and Lilly) in Robbinsdale. We are each other’s favorite people and are excited to go through life together!
Such an elegant combination – the yellow really pops against the black!
From this point on, Kelly will tell us all about how they made their wedding uniquely their own:
We sat down with our officiant on several different occasions to write out the ceremony because we wanted it to be very personal and meaningful. We also took a lot of time to plan out the details of the evening, making sure that it reflected both of us. Our ceremony space was outside and decorated with a lot of hanging lights, candles, crystals, chandeliers and flowers. Those aspects were also incorporated inside the venue which brought the whole space together and provided a very warm and inviting atmosphere.
We had a wedding painter come and capture the evening on her canvas; something that we took home and can now hang in our house!
We designed our cake, the top layer had the same design as our invitations, and the flower design was supposed to reflect the flowers in my bouquet. There was also a guest book table with pictures of the two of us throughout the years and cards that guests could fill out offering advice and suggestions for our future together.
We chose our favorite foods off of the menu that we had eaten on previous dates. We had the appetizers and cake buttler passed and the entrees and sides set up in food stations to encourage people to keep socializing.
Overall, we wanted the day to capture both of our personalities and our feelings for each other. We are really glad we were able to have it at a place where we both really enjoyed the food, had the atmosphere we were looking for, and were able to include our family and friends. We were also very happy with our officiant, photographer and mimi design!
Thank you so much Karen for sending this delightful wedding my way, and congratulations Kelly and Ryan! Thank you for sharing your special day with us. Here’s wishing you both a wonderful life together!
