Ashlee & Steven’s Sweet Camping & Card Games E-session
Steven proposed to Ashlee by the Pamlico River in North Carolina so it was naturally the perfect site for their e-session. Will and Dana of Will Greene Photography (also responsible for this Sunny Afternoon on Bicycles Day After Session) set up a camping themed area on the water and captured the cute couple’s love as they played cards and enjoyed their vintage camping area. Scroll on down to see the lovely photos and read about their beautiful love story. 🙂
Lucky for us, pretty Ashlee is on hand to tell us all about how they met (which is a must-read! It’s such a cute story!)
We met through two of our best friends, James and Emily Di Natale, in October 2011 in Greenville, NC! The weekend following Thanksgiving 2011, James and Emily had a get-together that we were both invited to. After the rest of the guests left, James and Emily piled on the long couch to watch a movie, leaving only the loveseat for me and Steven. James (being the mastermind that he is) turned the heat off in the middle of a November night without telling anyone so that the only way to stay warm would be to wrap up in a blanket. Steven and I were offered one blanket, which we wrapped up in. While watching the movie “Love Actually’, James and Emily “fell asleep”, and Steven and I talked throughout the whole movie! After the movie ended, Steven and I walked outside, but Steven did not ask me for my phone number. 🙁
Two days later was my birthday, and right after midnight on the morning of, I received a “happy birthday” message from Steven on Facebook! He also pointed out that he forgot to ask me for my phone number the last night we had hung out, which of course I immediately sent him! Later that day, Steven asked me if I wanted to hang out sometime that week, and we decided to meet for dinner at Winslow’s in Greenville, NC, the following night (November 29, 2011). I went to Winslow’s directly from class at ECU, and had been carrying my make-up bag and hair straightener around all day on campus! I was so nervous! When I walked in the restaurant, Steven was waiting for me on the couches (he is always early!). We went to our table, and the rest is history! After dinner, Steven asked me if I wanted to shoot pool at Pirates Den, and we stayed until 1:30am. After we walked to our cars and were saying goodnight, Steven tried to kiss me, but I did not catch on to that is what was happening, so I just gave him a hug! I realized what had just happened after I got in my car, and I was sure that he thought I hated him! I text him as soon as I got home so that he would know I had a wonderful night, and we saw each other two days later. We still laugh about what happened that night today!
We have not been separated from each other by choice since December 2, 2011, which is the first night Steven kissed me. 🙂
And check it out, their proposal story is just as romantic! Over to you Ashlee:
Steven was stationed in Georgia at Fort Gordon for Army training beginning February 13, 2012 until June 6, 2012, so we did not see each other for long periods of time very often. He had the opportunity to come home on Friday, May 25, and he suggested we go to the Barnes’ home at the Pamlico River. He got home really late, so I asked him if he was sure he felt like driving another hour to the river, and he quickly responded “yes!” even though I thought we should just stay home. Little did I know what he had in mind for that weekend!
We got to the river about 1am, and just before we fell asleep, Steven told me he wanted to get up and watch the sunrise over the river. I thought nothing of this because Steven is such a thoughtful person that he thinks of sweet things like this all the time! We woke up around 6am and walked out to the Barnes’ pier on the river with our Cabella chairs, music on the iPhone, and Steven’s famous mimosas! We started talking, and Steven asked me what I really wanted out of life. I told him, and then I added, “a good husband would be nice!” We continued talking, and Steven got off his chair to kneel beside me and hold my hand. Still, I thought nothing of this! A few weeks earlier, I heard a new song on the radio that I told Steven I really liked, so he told me he had downloaded a song I told him about. When he played the song, it was “Marry Me” by Train. And still, the thought of a proposal never crossed my mind at that moment! As we sat for a few seconds listening to the song while I took pictures, Steven said, “I have something to ask you.” I replied, “okay,” and Steven said, “But you have to close your eyes.” So I did, though I had still not considered the possibility of a proposal! That was until Steven took my left hand and began separating my fingers away from my ring finger!
At that moment, I opened my eyes to see the most beautiful ring and man I had ever seen before! Steven asked, “Will you marry me?” to which I replied with some shrill scream that I could never do again if I tried. I immediately started crying as he slid the ring on my finger, and he just stared at me. When I realized I hadn’t given him an answer yet, I screamed “yes!” and jumped up into the arms of my Fiance’. That was one of the happiest days of my life!
Ashlee also only had good words to say about this e-session and their photographer!
It was such a perfect early fall day! We chose Downtown Washington, NC, because we were trying to find a place symbolic of our relationship. Because we were engaged on the Pamlico River, Little Washington was the perfect spot, as the Pamlico River runs along Downtown! We thoroughly enjoyed working with our amazing photographer, Will Greene! Whenever Will suggested a camping-themed engagement shoot, we thought it could not be more perfect because camping is one of Steven’s favorite things to do! We’ve been talking about going camping for a while, but have not been yet, so this was my trial camping experience!
This session has a non-camping-themed part two but the photos are gorgeous and I couldn’t resist including it here as well…
Thank you Will and Diana for sending your beautiful images of this e-session my way, and congratulations Ashlee and Steven! I hope your wedding planning is going smoothly. 🙂
