Erin & Mike’s Sweet and Intimate Neon Boneyard Elopement

Erin & Mike originally wanted a huge wedding but the stress of planning got to them so… they decided to elope! They got married in the penthouse suite at the Bellagio in Las Vegas with Erin rocking a blush organza wedding dress that was personalized to suit her personality. After a sweet first look and a touching ceremony, they proceeded to the Boneyard where all of the “dead” Vegas signs go once taken down, and luckily photographer Renee Kaminski of The R2 Studio (see her previously featured work) was around to capture them stunningly!

How pretty are all the details? I’m also delighted that Erin’s here to tell us all about how their love story began:

Mike and I met 5 years ago in the most romantic of venues….work.  Ok, so not at all romantic, especially if you saw the actual location of where we worked.  We both worked (at that time) for a large auto insurance company that had these drive-in estimating facilities for cars that had been in accidents. We had to wear uniforms, the place looks like a body shop on steroids…and the lighting does nothing for a woman’s complexion.  So…needless to say not where one would go looking for love.  But there, amongst the bad lighting, the dirt and grime of damaged wrecked cars, this super girly-girl found her Prince.
He is from upstate New York, I’m a Jersey Girl, and here we were escaping the snow and cold in the desert of Arizona.  We clicked; our personalities play off each other….he is the Yin to my Yang…the peanut butter to my jelly, if you will. 🙂  Admittedly my personality can be a “bit much”….in the 100 miles an hour down the highway of life with my hair on fire type….where Mike is a little more down to earth, with a wicked sense of humor.  That balance centers the two of us and it makes us both feel at home when we are together.  We dated for 3 years when one brisk October morning he got down on one knee in our apartment and proposed.  I loved it; it wasn’t flashy or public or overblown.  I remember crying and shaking as he put the ring on my finger…I was sooo surprised!  (A side note: I must tell you about my engagement ring.  I am not a traditional diamond girl…in fact, I told him “NO DIAMONDS!”…he being the traditionalist, had always envisioned buying a diamond ring for his bride.  I love sapphires and for any jewelry that isn’t cookie-cutter.  With the help of an amazing estate jeweler he found this gorgeous vintage sapphire and diamond wedding set from the 50’s.  I was and am still blown away by it’s beauty.)  And that began the crazy insane wedding planning…

(Just how adorable is Mike’s reaction upon seeing his lovely bride?)

The beautiful thing about intimate weddings is that it keeps the focus on the couple and their union — but as I mentioned above, Erin & Mike actually originally planned for a big celebration! Here’s the story in the bride’s own words:

We actually had planned this overblown, over the top, yet completely cookie cutter wedding.  It all blew up into this HUGE production, that became less about us and more about this event.  Long story short?  THAT wedding didn’t happen…. The wedding we ended up having was WAY BETTER.  We wanted to do something that was “out-of-the-box” (like us)….as we talked, Vegas kept coming up. (We LOVE Vegas…we like to think it’s “Our City”) But we couldn’t just Little White Wedding Chapel it….we had to go BIG and GLAMOROUS.  So enter the Bellagio Resort with their romantic decor and mesmerizing water fountain.  But of course, we couldn’t just stop there…we wanted our amazing photographers (R2) to capture this so we decided to do it up big in Penthouse Suite overlooking the entire Vegas strip.  We wanted our wedding to focus on US, OUR love for each other…so the theme would be US, plain and simple.  We invited our immediate family only, the intimacy of the event made it even more special.

We really wanted to have fun and call the shots on our wedding day, so we rented out The Neon Museum and had R2 take a wicked fun editorial session.  THAT WAS A BLAST!  We love Vegas and especially it’s history, so to be surrounded by all these signs, that stood on the strip for years, was like being kids in a candy store!  We basically said, ‘enough of the posed wedding photos…let’s get down and dirty and have some fun!’

I am not a white-wedding dress kind of girl, so enter in Vera Wang and her awesome blush organza design…  I love corset backed dresses and it didn’t come like that, so I found Janet Kirkman in Scottsdale to put the champagne laced corset up the back and attach the blinged-out sash.

Our advice: GO TO VEGAS! hahaha…in all seriousness though… It is all about the marriage than the wedding, do not lose focus on that very important fact.  Do not get caught up in what other people want, what society makes you think you should have, etc.  Make it about the two of you and the beautiful love you share for one another.  And with whatever you decide…HAVE FUN!
