Out of Africa-themed Wedding Inspiration Shoot

Out of Africa wedding inspiration shoot

Receiving a submission from Sara & Jason Martin of Concept Photography gives me a thrill every time because I’m smitten with their dreamy, nostalgic photographic style! (See their previously featured work). True enough, this African Safari-themed wedding shoot did not disappoint. Not only does it boast of gorgeous images, the styling is just superb — it’s right on the mark without being too “expected”. Love it! It also helps that the models are a real couple which made for naturally sweet moments. Here are the Martins with the back story:

We wanted to do an Out of Africa inspired shoot that had a modern, fun asthetic. The shoot was inspired by the 1978 FJ cruiser.  We had been wanting to do a shoot with it, and I saw an old movie poster for Out of Africa — it just clicked. I instantly saw mosquito netting, red clay dirt roads and lace!  I knew I did not want a too literal interpretation (like tons of animal prints).

Lee James (the florist), his family is actually from South Africa, so he had the Protea flowers shipped in — and he has so many authentic pieces around his shop that he very generously let us use. Our amazing friends Janelle + Dave volunteered to be our models (we photographed their wedding about 3 years ago), and her lace dress was perfection.
There is also an amazing video to accompany the stills from Imprint Cinema below.
