Patti & Shawn’s Sweet Sun-Kissed DIY Tropical Oasis Wedding
I don’t know what I love most about this wedding — the whimsical DIY details the bride made with her mom, the colorful flowers that perfectly matched the bridesmaids’ dresses, the picturesque Melbourne Beach backdrop, its casual laid-back vibe, or the loving looks Patti and Shawn kept on exchanging throughout their special day! Patti told me that they were going for a bright, beautiful tropical oasis feel and that she wanted everyone to enjoy a bit of paradise. Obviously they succeeded and we have gorgeous images by the always-fab Jason & Sara Martin of Concept Photography as proof! Please enjoy. 🙂
I absolutely love that orchid and starfish crown Patti’s wearing!
Such a beautiful bride! From this point on I’m letting Patti tell you all about how she and Shawn got together + the events that led to their beautiful Melbourne Beach wedding:
Shawn and I have been together for 5 years. In that five years our lives have been anything but tradition so we knew our wedding couldn’t be either. We met while working our second jobs at a night club. He was the bouncer and I was the DJ. At first I refused to date any guy that I met at the bar. After many attempts he finally gave it some cool down time. In which it has been rumored that he called me “stuck up”. LOL Anyways, I later found out that he had a co-ed softball team and I volunteered to fill the girl spot he had open. I then justified my being head over heels for him by the simple fact that we started dating because of softball. Our friends seen us as fire and ice. Our personalities seemed so different to everyone except each other. We love being competitive with one an other in everything we do work, sports, family and friends… We are constantly pushing to help the other one be the best they can be.
On May 9, 2010 Shawn and I were visiting my parents in Florida for Mother’s day. As we walked on the beach that morning he got on one knee and asked for my hand in marriage. We planned on getting married on 11/11/11. My main job is running an electrical contracting company with my father in which Shawn works now too.
Sept. 27th of 2011 my father had a stroke. At that point everything in my life had changed. Shawn was my rock through it all. We decided to postpone our wedding and give my daddy time to recover.
Shawn knew what it meant to me to have my father walk me down the aisle and was so supportive. After a hard year we planned on 4/6/13. The best moment of all was taking my daddy’s arm and looking down seeing Shawn smile at me!
We always knew we wanted to be married on the beach and just have our immediate family and our best friends. As for the look… We didn’t want to compromise classiness but wanted everyone to feel relaxed and comfortable. We tried to have a laid back vibe with a lot of color, and of course the ocean as the backdrop. After changing locations multiple times we found Sand on the Beach and knew it was the place for our vision. When I walked down the aisle it was everything I had always dreamed it would be.
Aren’t these photos by Concept Photography just dreamy??? In case you missed it, I interviewed and did a feature on them a couple of days ago.
Patti shares the special touches that made their wedding uniquely theirs:
I made passport invitations with boarding pass R.S.V.Ps and luggage tag Save the Date magnets. It took my best friend Morgan and I forever to get them all together but they were defiantly a hit. I used lots of color (which proved to be a bigger challenge than I thought) , and pretty much designed every detail start to finish with the help of my mother.
Some parting insights from the lovely bride:
We had to postpone the wedding due to a family emergency, vendors had to be changed, and I lived 18 hours away! All I can say is thank God for my mother and our wedding planner Susan Coggins of Wedding Belles! I would have never been able to do this without them!!!
Huge thanks to Sara & Jason for sending this gorgeous wedding my way and congratulations to Patti and Shawn! Here’s wishing you a lifetime of married bliss. 🙂
