Veronica & Chad’s “Purple, Turquoise, and Peacock Feathers” Zoo Wedding

Happy Friday everyone! Wow this week sure went by quickly, didn’t it? We’re no strangers to zoo weddings  & e-sessions here on Poptastic Bride and I love how each one I’ve featured seem tailor-made to each couple.

The wedding I’m sharing today is no different — beautiful, a little quirky, and meaningful while completely spelling “Veronica and Chad”. The couple shared that when it came to design for their wedding, they took inspiration from the zoo and then infused it with their personal style. They employed peacock colors of purple and turquoise, an operating carousel, a macaroni bar, and an ice cream truck! They also did a unique double-knot rite at their ceremony but I’ll let Veronica tell you more about it later.

Thanks to Angela Watts of Tekoa Rose Photography we get to see their delightful celebration and here’s Angela with a few words about the event:

Veronica and Chad’s wedding was full of beautiful details tying in with their unique location of the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, Washington. From peacock feathers in the bouquets to being able to take photos in the dark, spooky shark tank, it was a wedding I’ll never forget. These two were some of the sweetest people and truly wanted their friends and family attending their wedding to have a great time and to feel appreciated and important.

From here on out the lovely Veronica will tell you more about how she and Chad met, and how they made their wedding completely their own:

Chad and I met in college, bonding over our shared fondness for macaroni and cheese, 80’s hair bands, and board games.  We got engaged and set a date, giving ourselves a full year to plan our wedding.  After a few months of late-night pinning, we thought, “Why wait? Let’s just get hitched.”  We eloped with our parents and brothers at our sides four days later on November 11, 2011.  Still wanting to share the special moment with our extended family and friends, we kept our pinky promise and celebrated later that year with everyone we love.

Because we had already tied the knot, we decided to use this opportunity to “double-knot” our marriage — instead of a unity candle, we joined two ropes together using a fisherman’s knot.  With tension, the knot only grows tighter; the separate ropes will snap before the knot comes undone.  With marriage, we will face different hardships, but the pressure will only serve to strengthen our bond.

We were lucky enough to have my grandpa serve as our officiant, which brought great warmth and humor to our ceremony.

These words of advice from Veronica can’t be any truer!:

Follow your heart!  When designing your wedding, your instinct is right more often than not.  The theme and atmosphere of the wedding should reflect you as a couple.  It just so happens that Chad and I aren’t the golf course type — so we chose a zoo, of all places!  At the end of the day, no matter what, it’s your wedding.  Do things your way.  But most importantly, take time to thank your family and friends:  they shaped you into the person your partner loves. Remember that they too want to celebrate your love.
