Jena & Matt’s Colorful, Rustic, and Artistic DIY Wedding
If you think this photo of today’s featured couple Jena and Matt is pretty magical, wait ’til you see the rest of the captivating images in this artistic and rustic wedding in Texas!
We have Andy Sams Photography to thank for the beautiful photos (see their previously featured work). Here he is with the day’s details:
As March began to end, I got really excited to photograph Jená and Matt again. I did their engagement session last fall in San Marcos and it’s one of my very favorites. For their wedding, I headed out to Kali Kate Event Pavillion, my new favorite venue, in Buda. The giant trees, stone ledge, and especially the reception pavilion made for gorgeous photos, from ceremony til sparkler send-off. I’ve never seen such twinkly lights as hang around the grounds at Kali Kate and I love how they add a sense of romanticism to every image I captured.
As always, the wedding couldn’t have gone on so smoothly without a team of expert vendors. Samantha Conley of Kali Kate is a fabulous coordinator and made sure Jená didn’t have to worry about a thing on her big day. Firefly Floral Design arranged bold bouquets for the bride and her maids, as well as beautiful center pieces for the reception. The Salt Lick catered the affair and Blue Note Bakery created some of the coolest cakes I’ve seen. Be sure to check out the cute little worm cake toppers and the killer guitar groom’s cake. The Traveling Photo Booth set right up in the pavilion and kept the party going with fun props and cheesy smiles.
Don’t Jena and Mark look absolutely in love? It’s time we got to know them better so here’s the lovely Jena with a few details about the two of them:
Matt and I met in college. We have been together 9 years since this July 10, but we always wanted to wait to get married until we were out of college and had a good start in our careers. So for our family, the wedding was very much of an “about time” kind of thing. Matt has played guitar (and any other instrument he can gets his hands on) from an early age, and I started painting from an early age. Between the two of us, we have an appreciation for the arts in all its forms. If anything, that made planning the details of a wedding that much more complicated.
Our wedding theme was based on the venue. Kali Kate is a gorgeous outside venue with a wonderful pavilion. It leant itself to the “rustic” theme. Being a painter, I wanted lots of colors, so I made sure my flowers were very colorful to balance all the browns of being rustic.
We tried to personalize our wedding with small details. I made the table runners myself …yes, all 13, 9-foot long table runners. The cake topper was a dinosaur couple I ordered off Etsy.
We had to get a guitar groomsmen cake for Matt of course. I sent the baker a picture of his guitar, and they designed it from that model.
We also tried to incorporate our friends’ talents as much as possible. Our buddy that does graphic design did our invitations and our friend that is a professional DJ did the music. We didn’t want to do the same ole engraved mug for the groomsmen gifts — so we did engraved guitar picks (again, from Etsy) and for the bridesmaids gifts, I made the jewelry myself.
A few words of advice from the bride:
DONT do to many DIY things. The table runners took WAY too much of my time. Don’t let the mothers tell you what you should do… do it how you want. Oh, and don’t cry the whole way down the aisle, it ruins pictures.
Huge thanks to Andy and Nicole for sending this gorgeous wedding my way, and congratulations to Jena and Matt! I wish you guys a lifetime of married bliss. 🙂
