Laura & Orion’s Glamorous Vintage-Style City Wedding
Happy new week, Poptastic Briders! I’m sorry for not being able to post yesterday, I was down with the flu and wouldn’t have been able to write anything coherent. I’m actually still on recovery mode but I didn’t want you to miss seeing Laura an Orion’s glamorous city wedding at the beautiful Society Room in Hartford CT. The couple incorporated quirky personal touches like a reading from “A Lovely Love Story” and some unique song selections including one by the Muppets (you’ll find out what the others are later). The venue also used to be a bank so they were able to take very interesting portraits including an alternative first look by the vault.
Fortunately this feature doesn’t need any additional rambling from me lest I become incoherent again because Candace Jeffery Photography‘s gorgeous photos already speak volumes about the beauty of their celebration. Please enjoy.
Let’s get to know the couple a little bit better — here’s the lovely Laura with their story:
Orion and I grew up in the same town. We went to the same high school, were in the same grade, even had friends in common; but we had never even spoken to each other. In out early 20s we had some chance encounters, chatting a little and getting to know each other, but the circumstances kept us from anything further. Finally, a few years later, after many missed connections and a few chance encounters, fate brought us together through a mutual friend. We’ve been together ever since.
Here’s Laura again with the behind-the-scenes details of their wedding:
We choose navy and ivory for our glamorous vintage style city wedding. We didn’t want to follow bridal trends, we wanted something that could display timelessness. Our venue, The Society Room of Hartford, fit right in with this, not being your typical bland venue. We loved the aspect that it was an old bank with the vault still intact. The grand staircase and the incredible high and ornate ceiling just added to the idea of what we wanted our wedding to be.
We had a reading during the ceremony of a children’s book, A Lovely Love Story, read by a bridesmaid. We felt the book depicted us and our relationship rather well, while also showing our love of books and all things quirky.
The venue, Society Room of Hartford, was everything we had imagined but so hard to find in a world of “white wedding factories”. We didn’t want that sterile, bland feeling you get from many venues. Society Room had character and elegance. It was just the look we were looking for.
We wanted a simple but elegant look to the bouquets and table arrangements and they came out wonderfully. We felt the table arrangements fit the theme well and really set the mood for the reception.
Our main personalization was our music choices. We wanted both the ceremony and reception to not be your traditional wedding music, but rather a display of our personalities. Music is a big part of my life. I’m obsessed with it. I took a lot of time picking out songs from my personal collection to fit the moments of the wedding. I’m not the type of girl that had always dreamed about my wedding since I was little but I am the type that said, “It’s the only time when I get entrance music when walking into a room. It has to be great and fit the moment perfectly.” Therefore, our DJ worked his magic and the soundtrack to our wedding was magical.
MOB & Groom: Somebody’s Getting Married by the Muppets

Some advice from the newlyweds:
I would say to savor and really enjoy the party of the wedding! We spent so much time planning that it was great to finally have the day come and enjoy it. We danced all night. Make sure to spend the reception with each other!
Huge thanks to Candace for sending her beautiful images my way, and congratulations to Laura and Orion! Here’s to a lifetime of married bliss. 🙂
