Kat & Chris’s Relaxed and Rustic Nature and Pine Cone-themed Wedding
Welcome to another week of funky wedding inspiration, friends! I have a fantastic feature for you today — a lovely fall wedding themed around the couple’s love for nature and the outdoors. Kat and Chris’ main decorative element? Pine cones! I just love how they creatively incorporated it into all their elements. Other personal, non-traditional touches include having the bridal party wear outdoor-friendly Ugg boots and serving fun munchies for the guests to snack on after some wild partying.
We have the fabulous Kristin Chalmers Photography (see her previously featured work + BTL interview) to thank for the gorgeous photos on this page. Here she is with some insider info:
Kat and Chris were a blast to work with. They were fun and totally into collaborating when it came to the photography. Some interesting things about this wedding were….
* Kat’s father was unable to come to the states from Columbia so they Skyped him in for the entire wedding. There was a person literally walking around with a laptop from start to finish. It was hilarious.
* Their theme when it came to flowers and details was inspired by pine cones. Their florist did a great job.
* At the end of the night, they had munchie food that was off the charts complete, with home made potato chips with dipping sauces, sliders, two kinds of french fries and hot fresh baked chocolate chip cookies
* Kat and Chris did a first look and then I took them to a quiet place where they actually said their own personal vows to one another before actually doing the traditional stuff. They read them from their phones.
How sweet was that first look? From this point on, I would like for you to hear about Kat and Chris’ wedding details from the lovely bride herself. Here she is now to tell you all about herself and Chris… over to you Kat!
Chris & I met in college and have been together for 8 years! Those amazing years allowed us to study abroad together in Africa, and create a strong foundation for our relationship. We are big nature enthusiasts and to be quite honest we feel the most at home in the woods. On any given weekend you can find us hiking, kayaking and kicking back with a few beers and our college buddies.
We wanted our wedding to reflect who we are as a couple so of course we had to pull in our love for the outdoors! I guess our theme would be “nature & pine cones” . We called on all our friends to help us collect pine cones from the New England area and even Florida!
We spent a couple of days/weeks gathering pine cones with family and friends and used them to create a theme for our decor. From the minute your received our invitation you could feel the pine cone theme coming through. They were present in our invitations, bouquets (some of the bridesmaids even carried them!), bathroom baskets, boutonnieres, and even our cake toppers were DIY bride and groom pine cones! Many, many of our details were DIY, I had quite a crafty group of family and friends!
One of our most favorite things about planning our wedding day was how personal we made it. So many wedding participants had been such an important part of our journey towards marriage, that we wanted to make sure we acknowledged them. We also wanted to keep our wedding meaningful to us as a couple. We played to our great respect to nature by planting a sapling with earth our mothers had provided us from our childhood homes.
We kept many details DIY because we knew we had family that could help us and be included in our planning.
We knew we had a youthful party crowd so we made sure we played up our love for late night munchies. After the musical playlist down memory lane out came the fresh hot baked cookies for the chocolate lovers, as well as sliders and fries for the rest.
We also created a signature drink, that played up to the hearts of our college friends. We called it “Oneonta Iced Tea” named after the city our college was located. It also played up to the fact that Chris and I met in front of an iced tea stand our freshman year.
Huge thanks to Kristin for sending her beautiful photos my way, and congratulations to Kat and Chris! I wish you guys a lifetime of married bliss.
