Stephanie & Kerstan’s Rustic and Playfully Romantic Farm Life E-session
Kicking off this week is a beautifully-photographed e-session in a farm filled with sweet, flirty, and somewhat rambunctious moments as you will see in the hay fight below. The setting is a farmhouse that holds a special place in Stephanie and Kerstan’s hearts — it was the first home they ever rented together and it’s also where he popped the question!
We have Josh Baker of AzulOx Photography for the wonderful photos and he’s here to take us through every step of this delightful shoot:
What an afternoon for an engagement session! Half of this session was planned to be underwater but Texas weather turned the temps down low and the Comal River is cold enough. We were left with a couple that lives on an amazing Century Farm in New Braunfels, Texas and has the attitude to withstand my creative whims.
For instance, we egged the happy couple into having a hayfight. And then we had two helpers throw more hay on them while fighting. I must stay I think the couple is a little competitive because it got serious real quick…
Photographer Josh continues…
As if a hayfight wasn’t enough, we decided that we wanted to create a scene on their front porch with a summer Texas rain feel with a setting sun. There was no sun at this point, and no rain either, but we did have waterhoses, ladders and flash gels to make the scene come to life. The camera stayed mostly dry.
Steph and Kerstan also have this super cool kitchen with lots of kitschy flair, so we created another little mini-story of Stephanie cooking dinner for her hard working cowboy snoozing on the counter. He even brought her flowers from the field.
Finally the sun did come out to play a sunset tune for us and we grabbed some warm blankets and headed to the pier above the stock pond to catch the last light of the day. We were happy to be in a place where we all could see and enjoy a great end to the day. Thanks to Stephanie and Kerstan for being such good actors in our little stories and for sharing their home with us.
About the couple, in lovely Stephanie’s own words:
We met at our first jobs out of college. We both sold Advertising for the San Antonio Express News and pretty much fell in love at first sight. Now I work in Austin for Cox Media Services and Kerstan works for Blue Bonnet Chrysler Dodge in New Braunfels (my dads dealership) selling for the business link department which is commercial trucks. We live in New Braunfels and LOVE it — just bought our first home and plan on being there for a good while. 🙂
We got married on July 13th– which is the same day (37 years to the day that my mom and dad met) I played college softball and he worked for Bob Knight in college… we are HUGE sports people. We have a 2 year old Husky that unfortunately was a little too distracted during our engagement session to get into any of the pictures… but we are in love with him.
Stephanie on what made their e-session special and unique to them:
These engagement pictures are very special because this was the first home we rented together. Every shot is taken at “The Farmhouse” which is what we called our house. We lived there for a year and it was amazing. We rented the house (200 years old) from an old farmer who didn’t live in it anymore but still takes care of the land and the animals. The barn you see… was literally in our front yard, and the pond with that beautiful sunset… that was about 100 yards down the hill from our house. In a few of the pictures you can see the white house with turquoise shutters in the background. We fished out there, and got to pretend we lived in the old days. The pictures of the kitchen (which are my fave) that was the kitchen we cooked in for a whole year. No dishwasher, and ONE bathroom. 🙂 BUT… it was a wonderful experience and I think we will always remember that house and it is really cool that we have these pictures so that we never forget.
OH YA– Kerstan proposed on that porch as well… randomly one night just dropped down on one knee right there on the porch. So it holds a huge sentimental value to us, and we also just LOVED acting like we were country. It is funny because Kerstan grew up in Stone Oak in San Antonio and I think he has really enjoyed playing the cowboy role he got to out there. It was fun, and different, and we couldn’t have captured it any better I don’t think.
Thank you Josh for sending this beautiful session my way, and congratulations Stephanie and Kerstan! Here’s to a happy forever. 🙂
