Margaret & Oliver’s Fun and Happy No-Rules Wedding in an Art Museum

deCordova Museum wedding

Margaret and Oliver had one of the most fun weddings I’ve ever seen and I wasn’t even there lol. Yup, I’m totally basing it on the photos folks but I know you’ll agree once you see all the exuberantly happy and tears-of-joy-filled faces — both the couples’ and the guests’. They didn’t have a theme but the artsy & quirky feel of their venue, a modern art gallery and sculpture garden, carried over to the party and the DIY details. Margaret and Oliver didn’t stick with tradition and had the wedding their way which resulted in it being a true reflection of themselves.

The fabulous Karina Picache of OhKarina Photography (see her previously featured work + BTL interview) is responsible for the GORGEOUS photos. Please enjoy!

How adorable is Margaret? More info about the couple in the beautiful bride’s own words:

I’m originally from NYC but was visiting one of my best friends in Somerville, MA (right outside of Boston) which is where I first met Oliver, at a party she threw. He was a cute guy from a tiny village in Germany, and who has his own IT company. Despite our really different backgrounds, and the distance between NYC and Boston, we decided to try and date. We kept up the long-distance romance for about a year, when I decided to leave my beloved city and move to Boston. I then got a job working in the Office of Admissions at Harvard Divinity School as well as obtaining my Masters degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Oliver is an avid biker and home brewer, and he also makes pretty amazing pretzels.

About the wedding:

We didn’t have a theme. We decided our venue would be the deCordova Museum and Sculpture Garden really early on (I had just started grad school and wanted to focus on my studies so we had a 2 year engagement). We knew that the venue was an incredible choice and as long as we had food, booze, and good music, everyone would have a good time.

Margaret details how they made their wedding was uniquely theirs:

After having been to a lot of different kinds of weddings, Oliver and I felt that we didn’t really need the “traditional” stuff. We didn’t want cake, so we had assorted pies (and also didn’t do any cake cutting ceremony). We also didn’t do any parent dances. So basically, it was a lot more flexible aso that we could all be relaxed, visit the museum, dance, drink and eat. Another thing we did that was very “us” was that instead of a guest book, we had a mailbox made with our names and “Est. 2013” on it and a whole bunch of postcards so our guests could “write us postcards”. I love writing postcards and friends to all my friends and family and so this was definitely something that was personal to us.

Advice from the newlyweds:

Remember that there are no “rules” for weddings. It’s you and your fiance/e’s day and so you should make of it what you want. Magazines tell you one thing. Parents, families, and friends will tell you another. It’s up to you to figure out what you want and how to make the day distinctly yours. 🙂
