Rosalind & Mark’s Hip and Vibrant E-session in 17th Ave Calgary
Aren’t Rosalind and Mark above just utterly adorable? And this fantastic photo is only a preview of the awesomeness to come, thanks to the talents of Chantal Saville of Paisley Photography. Here she is to tell you more about what went on that day:
This couple is unbelievably fun! When I first met Mark & Rosalind and they said they wanted to have their engagement photos done down on the trendy 17th Ave in Calgary, AB and they had already scouted out some awesome spots. Well I was pumped to say the least! They were literally up for anything! From drawing with chalk on the sides of apartment buildings, to pretending they were secret agents trying to save the world, to just being so stinking cute! These two met as children at a children’s camp as they played in the mud and then continued to run the same circle (not being friends) through their childhood until they reconnected in college. I had an absolute blast shooting their e-session. Their vibrant, outgoing personalities shine through in their session as well as just their overflowing love for each other! Bliss!
Their love story, in the pretty Rosalind’s own words:
We first met in junior high at youth group, but didn’t really speak very much. I was better friends with his twin sister (Megan), so I just basically knew Mark through association…as “Megan’s Brother”. Then in grade 12, at overnight camp, we found ourselves knee-deep in mud during free time at the river, and decided to make a tribe and name it the ‘eekidorkadukus’ (mark’s suggestion). We continued to joke about this until the end of camp, but then lost touch again until second year university, when he joined the same life group as me. We started joking around, had a few “hellos” in the hallway at school, and eventually found out that we had classes near each other, so he began to walk me to class. Eventually, April 16th, 2011, we both told each other how we felt, and decided to start dating. Two weeks following this, Mark was going away for work with CP Rail, and would be away on a train for 4 months. It was really cool to do long-distance at the beginning of the relationship; we got to learn how to talk to each other without the physical stuff getting in the way! I definitely fell in love with his personality that summer.
We went to a friend’s birthday party, and Mark had mentioned that there was supposed to be a meteor shower around midnight, so we should sneak out to go watch it! I assumed this was just because of his love of astronomy. So we drove and drove and drove. He finally finds a dirt road, and drives and drives and drives down that until finally pulling over. So we get out of the car and he pulls a blanket out of the back seat, and lays it on the hood of the car. (I’m thinking – “This is so cute! What a great idea! How romantic!”…still oblivious.) So we lay down on the hood of the car, gazing up at the stars, and…he suggested we use the stars as a celebration! I asked what we were celebrating…And I’m pretty sure you can figure out what happened next. I laughed uncontrollably, both hearts were pounding, we were shivering but weren’t cold, and we listened to the sounds of cows mooing and watched shooting stars go across the dark sky. My favourite part of the proposal, was when he pulled out a ziploc bag with a ring in it. That was adorable! The box was too big to put in his pocket all night, and obviously that time when he asked me to marry him. That was pretty great.
What made this e-session uniquely their own:
The fact that we were on 17th…I just LOVE 17th Ave, and love the cliche hipster vibe down there. Mark worked a couple blocks away, so I used to love to go visit him for lunch and then spend a few hours perusing 17th after visiting. Also it was fun to explore 17th and go down some back alleys. We always have fun doing nothing, and the fact that we were kinda just walking around and kissing and hugging and having fun was…just us.
Huge thanks Chantal for sending your gorgeous images my way, and congratulations on your engagement Rosalind & Mark! Here’s to a happy forever. 🙂
