Izabel & David’s Rustic and Elegant (with a touch of Quirky Fun) DIY Wedding
Welcome to another week of funky wedding inspiration! Today’s featured wedding made me smile BIG the moment I saw it because, what can I say, Izabel and David’s smiles are really infectious. I don’t think there’s any photo here where they are not beaming with love and happiness! Add to that the fact that their celebration was one big ball of merriment that included fun & crafty DIY details, quirky personal touches, and most importantly heaps of fun with family and friends.
We have Elizabeth Fogarty to thank for the beautiful photos and here she is to tell us more about the special day:
From the her Converses to her curly hair, this bride is everything a bride should be on her wedding day: happy and carefree. Izzy was ALL smiles all day long. She, along with the bridesmaids, actually made the bouquets, which turned out to be awesome. After the ceremony, they did the signing of the shoes. Hello non-Pinterest bride! I love how unique Izzy and David made their day.
Just how cute is this first look (without the actual “look”) photo? Aww. <3 And here we have the beautiful Izabel to tell us more about herself, her beloved David, and their wedding:
My husband’s name is David Saville (coincidentally the same as the guy from Alvin and the chipmunks!) he is an only child born and raised in Maryland, and currently works as an investments representative at Fidelity. I’d describe David as a complete and utter goofball, with cheese being his major weapon of attack. If its dated and a one liner, chances are it’s in his bank of jokes- I love it.
Overall, our wedding was a combination of both our tastes – David is very classic, and I’m more down to earth. It was rustic elegance, our venue was a mansion, yet our centerpieces were handmade flower arrangements stacked on vintage used books. The bridesmaids and groomsmen had handmade bouquets and boutonnieres I made from silk flowers from Michael’s wrapped in twine.
Every part of of the wedding was expressive of our personality. We broke ‘tradition’ and wore sneakers. I have never been a heels girl, occasionally it’s fine but I wanted to feel like me in my wedding dress- so I wore white high top converse, and David wore white Adidas. As a final touch, after we said I do, we signed each others shoes. We still wear those shoes, the got especially worn on our honeymoon!
And finally, I love this piece of advice from the couple:
Planning a wedding isn’t a walk in the park, but it isn’t impossible either. It’s great to remember when planning that whatever you end up deciding to do, to make it memorable for you and husband, because ultimately that’s who the day is about. Tackle one subject at a time and think– really think about what you and your husband like and don’t like. A ‘traditional’ wedding isn’t what everyone else is doing, it’s thinking for yourself how you want that day to be imprinted in your memory for many years down the road.
Huge thanks, Elizabeth for sending this gorgeous wedding my way, and congratulations Izabel and David! I sincerely wish you guys a lifetime of married bliss!
