Christina & James’ Creative and Crafty DIY Garden Wedding
Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate the holiday! I have another special treat so you DIY fans better get those virtual pins ready. 🙂
If you think the adorable couple seems familiar, that’s because you’ve already met them here last year when I featured their Frolicsome E-session in the Art-and-Graffiti-lined Streets of Williamsburg. Well it turns out that Christina and James aren’t only a fun couple, they’re artistic too, and today you’ll get to witness their gorgeous garden wedding at a charming B&B in New Jersey. A lot of the lovely rustic decor and details were done by Christina herself, giving them a meaningful personal touch.
There are more photos than usual because (1) there are soooo many pretty details. Christina told me she enjoyed decorating so much that she started her own print design business, The Crooked Twig; and (2) photos are by Todd Laffler of Laffler Photography who, as we know, is synonymous with awesome imagery (See all of his previously featured work)… and here they are without further ado. Enjoy.
That is such a precious expression on Christina! And here she is to tell us all about herself & James and their beautiful wedding:
James and I are very laid-back, fun-loving people. We love to laugh (mostly at each other) and we love exploring the quirky and beautiful world around us. Throughout the entire planning process we knew we wanted a day full of fun and celebration infused with bright sunlight, flowing of laughter and joy, and covered in succulents! We knew from the beginning that we wanted our wedding to be outdoors, surrounded by gorgeous trees and summer air. It was important for us to find a place that reminded us of growth and life and to celebrate the beautiful ways God has loved and blessed us. We wanted everything to be very natural and playful, like going to a friend’s backyard to enjoy a beautiful day together. Somewhere open and airy and full of natural beauty!
My husband was actually the one that found the perfect venue! Crossed Keys Inn really was a magical place – a cozy Bed & Breakfast on a beautiful garden estate, with a gorgeously lit reception tent, and an unbelievable view of the rolling hills and open sky. They even had a tree with a swing! We loved that we were able to enjoy the entire day there and they even had a beautiful stone cottage in the garden for us to stay overnight in. It’s a really amazing experience to wake up the next day and walk through the grounds and take it all in. It was magical.
I love designing and crafting so I had a blast with working on all the details of our day. We loved DIYing anything and everything, from the flower girl’s head wreath, to the little birdcage nest for our rings. We designed and letterpressed our own invitations, made our own programs, and I hand-wrote all the signage for our cocktail hour, place cards, chair signs, and all of the menus.
We had a lot of fun putting our personality into anything we could get our hands on! We even made our own moss covered table numbers with reclaimed tree bases, cut by James’s dad, from a branch we found upstate. I loved that our family and friends were such a huge part of our day- my younger cousins played the music for our ceremony and my best friend/matron on honor handmade my veil!
Advice from the newlyweds:
When it comes to planning, I’ve seen people get caught up in trying to make everything “unique” or completely new and different from things they’ve seen before. That’s not necessary and probably not very fun. Make it a priority to choose things that are beautiful to you and and make it so that it’s a party you’d have fun at! And ultimately, it’s a beautiful celebration! Enjoy the whole process and be excited to celebrate with the people you love!
