Erin & Doug’s Yellow & Blue Science-themed Wedding in a Science Museum
Today’s featured wedding took place at the Durham Life & Science Museum, a fitting venue for Erin and Doug who both have science-related professions. The decor and details had nods to the sciences too — table numbers were named after chemical elements and drawings of a flask and test tube bride & groom adorned their escort cards. A pretty baby blue and yellow motif tied all the elements together. The couple also made sure to incorporate bits and pieces that represented their quirky interests throughout the celebration.
We have A.J. Dunlap Photography to thank for this wonderful submission. Enjoy!
Let’s get to know the couple a little better shall we. Here’s beautiful bride Erin to tell you more about herself and Doug and their wedding:
We’re both definitely in science fields. He’s in the computer/electrical engineering part of it while I’m a chemist in a forensic toxicology lab. We met at a banquet for the running club we both belong to four years ago and got engaged last year in the mountains here in North Carolina. He’s originally from Louisville, KY while I’m from Iowa by way of Florida. We enjoy the local craft beer scene here in Durham, the Triangle and throughout North Carolina.
I really love how they matched the colors in their outfits + isn’t that the most adorable high-low wedding dress?
I think the theme was “fun while incorporating bits and pieces of us throughout”. Having it outside the Butterfly House at the Museum of Life and Science both suited our science-y sides. The bridal party walked in to Linus and Lucy and then walked out to the end theme of Star Wars. One of the readings was about how love is like owning a dog (we have two Pugs).
We rented the train and Butterfly House for our guests during cocktail hour. Since our families were from out of town, we wanted them to experience North Carolina. We had BBQ and provided local beer.
Advice from the newlyweds:
Trust your vendors. You did your research and made sure they were great before hiring them. They know what they’re doing and will do their best the day of. Let them do it. Also, the wedding day will fly by. You can try and take moments but it will still be the fastest day of your life. Enjoy what you can.
Big thanks to AJ for sending her gorgeous images my way, and congratulations Erin and Doug! I sincerely wish you a lifetime of married bliss. 🙂
