Elora & Alex’s Bright and Glittery DIY Space-themed Wedding
Elora and Alex have a love for sci-fi so a “space” theme for their wedding with a blue and gold motif was definitely the way to go. With no help from a planner and only four months to plan, they managed to carry out their theme through creativity and a lot of DIY — they spray painted stars and other decor with gold glitter for a space age-vibe, their “ring pillow” was a Starship Enterprise, and ceremony music and readings had nods to their favorite sci-fi films and TV shows.
We have Pauline Conway Photography to thank for the lovely photos. Enjoy!
Meet adorable couple Elora and Alex. From this point on, Elora will tell you all about the two of them and their starry celebration:
Alex and I have known each other for about 5 years and have been together for a little over 3.5 years. We were set up on our first date by mutual friends. We love science fiction, hockey, our baby dog bones (named after Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy from the original Star Trek series), playing music, and hanging out with friends.
Our wedding was ‘space’ themed. This was inspired by our love for Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who and just space, in general. Our colors were Gold, and metallic blue, and EVERYTHING was covered in glitter (haha)!
We literally sprayed all of our DIY decorations with gold glitter which consisted of last year’s wire-made starry Christmas decorations given to us by our best friend, Simone, fake metallic flower center pieces, placed in gold/metallic blue spray painted wine and whiskey bottles saved throughout the year . We also had lights up over the dance floor outside when the sun went down to give it a starry, space-like vibe.
Our favors were custom made shot glasses with gold shooting stars.
Our wedding vows were made up of numerous quotes and puns from these sci-fi movies and tv shows. They were pretty cheesy, just like us.
All music during ceremony was space themed. Walked down to original Star Trek theme song, wedding party was later introduced to a Star Wars Disco Remix by Meco.
Our best friend, Pat, married us. He got ordained online and stood under the stars, hung on the tree that we were married under. He walked down the aisle in a black cape, looking like a Darth Vader representation. His speech was hilarious. I wish I had it on film.
I had a lot of people tell us it was a nerdy, yet lovely evening and they wouldn’t expect anything else coming from us.
We did not hire a wedding planner. My best friends, Melanie and Simone, whom were a part of the wedding, really helped put everything together, within a time frame of 3-4 months. I did not think everything would fall together the day of as smoothly as it did.
With it being my wedding, I was able to notice if things weren’t lining up with our scheduled times on the day of the wedding,
But no one else noticed. I even had people tell me it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to!
So, my advice would be, YES, it is an important day, maybe one of
The most important days of your entire life, but it is only ONE day. ENJOY IT and do not stress over the little things. Everything falls into place in the end.
It also helps to have an open bar for you and your guests… Haha.
Thank you Pauline for sending your beautiful images my way, and congratulations Elora and Alex! Might I add, “live long and prosper.” 🙂
