Wed Eclectic Team: Non-Traditional Alternatives for an Original Wedding

I know how much you girls (and guys) love seeing  inspiration for unique, alternative and non-traditional weddings as well as elegant and charmingly quirky handmade creations so I am excited to present our new partner, We Love Offbeat Etsy Weddings, a blog run by a team of artisans and treasure discoverers offering you non-traditional alternatives for an original wedding.

Their blog dishes out fun, unique and yes, offbeat wedding ideas such as doing away with your bouquet and walking down the aisle with a mask instead (especially if your wedding has a Masquerade theme) or having your groom wear computer video game cufflinks. They also regularly feature cool finds from their roster of artists, such as this very groovy Rollergirl Bouquet from Floricultcha.

I asked the Offbeat Etsy Weddings Team Captain Krissy (who makes lovely handcrafted wedding flower bouquets and more: see them at her store Make Believe) about when and how the group came about:

The Offbeat Etsy Weddings Team started with an Etsy treasury I curated in mid-2010.  I chose several interesting unique and non-traditional vendors that might not ordinarily be considered wedding and made a treasury in honor of Offbeatbride.com. Disclaimer: We are inspired by Offbeatbride.com but not affiliated.

One of those wonderful vendors was Teneisha (Hair Accessories for the Brave).   Teneisha and I realized that there were no “alternative” wedding teams on Etsy and decided to start one right away.  It has been an amazing journey to say the least.  Our numbers have grown from just a few to 60+ members within six months.  The truly amazing part is that each member has been hand selected by the team and voted on to become a member.  We are some of the most picky people EVER!  For every one accepted application another has been passed on.  Excellent customer satisfaction, a wide variety of “different” products, abilities in marketing and willingness to contribute to a team are crucial.  It makes us proud to belong to such a wonderful group of artists.

Here on Poptastic Bride, offbeat and alternative are terms I often throw around to describe personality-centric, non-cookie-cutter types of weddings. When I asked Krissy for their definition, I knew right away that our blogs are a perfect match!

Offbeat is an arbitrary term for our team.  We know it when we see it. If it fits into a princess’  idea of a perfect white wedding it probably won’t belong in our ranks.  It is really more about individuality.  Personal style brought to the surface and not hidden under the silk and taffeta of the Joneses.  We are anti cookie cutter, anti inside the box!  We love diversity in every way.  90% of our shops are devoted to custom work.  The shops that don’t actively pursue custom orders create one of a kind pieces that should be considered art.

Our blog is dedicated to the promotion of our team and providing interesting articles about; traditional vs offbeat, grooms, food and favors, fashion, hair and makeup, accessories, advice/planning, Eco/green, dresses, and inspirations.  We do a monthly giveaway provided by one or more team members.  We are always on the lookout for real weddings and interesting products to feature.

I’m glad to have learned about the Offbeat Etsy Team as I love promoting talented independent artists, especially those who are brave enough to go off the beaten track. If you love handmade Etsy items and fresh ideas for alternative weddings, hurry and bookmark Offbeat Etsy Weddings now!
