Morgan and Jim’s Heartfelt and Homespun Non-Traditional Wedding

Morgan West and Jim Turner met at the nursery in the hospital… but they were just babies so they didn’t know it! Thus began their love story…

all you need is love

Photographer Carolyn Scott — a friend of Morgan’s in high school who, incidentally, took all of the stunning pictures you see here — shares that since that fateful day in the nursery, the couple later reunited through mutual friends and were finally married this November.

From Carolyn —

Morgan and Jim’s wedding centers around love. It didn’t center around an overblown budget or a stuck-up fancy pants venue. It centered around the two of them and, consequently, the wedding had more personality in it than ANY wedding I’ve seen with hundreds of painstaking handmade details. They were absolutely happy and had so much fun and it definitely shows. They stopped before their wedding to get ice cream sandwiches. A bar across the street saw them and invited them in for a beer. They were willing to do funny, quirky poses because nothing worried them on their wedding day because it wasn’t about the stuff. It was one of the happiest weddings I’ve ever photographed.

I’m in love with these photos because Carolyn was able to perfectly capture the essence of Morgan and Jim’s precious moments. We clearly see how happy the couple is and how much they love one another through her camera work, don’t you agree?

I also got to correspond with our beautiful bride Morgan who was happy to intimate with us how she and Jim worked together to make their celebration uniquely their own:

The theme of our wedding was simply us. We wanted it to embody us and our love as much as possible. We have been together for 5 years so we had a lot of time to figure that all out 😉 We knew we wanted non-traditional wedding with spots of tradition scattered through which pretty much defines us to a T.

As far as personalization – we created everything. I sewed the cake toppers, and we went to thrift stores in our area of Pittsburgh for the vases and candles (which we painted) that made up our centerpieces – and we placed the flowers in them ourselves! My father crafted the “Turner” centerpiece and I painted And stained it! Oh! I also did the “all you need is love” banner – which is the song I walked down the aisle to 🙂

Another thing we focused on was friends and family. Our DJ was a close friend, the hall has family history, Carolyn and I were friends in high school (its coincidence that she is such an AMAZING photographer), the judge who performed our ceremony has known my husband through our local Eagle Scouts since he was young, and our videographer was my band director in high school. One of my close friends did all of our programs as a wedding gift. In keeping with this, we were able to keep the entire cost of our wedding within a comfortable amount. Which seems to be hard to do anymore!

I adore everything about this wedding because it was an intimate, earnest, no-frills celebration of who the couple is shared with the people they love — and isn’t that what a marriage is truly about? The moment I saw the photos I knew in an instant that I wanted to post it here for all of you to see and enjoy. (It’s also the first time my cat — yes I’m a cat mom too — got excited over a wedding feature when he glimpsed Morgan’s adorable grey kitty Charlie in the photos.)

Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos of this special day, Carolyn! Here’s wishing Morgan and Jim a lifetime of wedded bliss. 🙂
