Kelly & Ross’ Beauty and the Beast-inspired Wedding

Kelly and Ross are Disney fans so it’s definitely no surprise that they chose to pay homage to a story they both love on their wedding day. Disney’s take on Beauty and the Beast was one of my favorite animated movies by the studio so I was happy to receive this delightful themed wedding submission from Jacksonville, Florida-based Christy Whitehead Photography.

Here’s what Christy had to say about Kelly & Ross’ wedding:

I don’t know if it’s just because I’m in Florida or if Disney themed weddings are big everywhere, but as a photographer I usually get the “princess” themed ones. But this was a little different, these two met each other through work and loved Beauty and the Beast and centered their wedding around that. But it wasn’t overkill, it was subtle touches, from the wording on the guest book (Be our Guest: Guest Book) to the wording on the menus, and the books and tea cups on the tables. Kelly did the flowers and such herself.

Lovely Kelly is here to share her and Ross’ super sweet love story with us:

Ross and I met in 2004 through my sister in law and when my position at the YMCA was eliminated, I took a position at Contractor Connection where Ross worked. We were work friends at first and the more we got to know each other, the more that we found we had in common. We were friends for about 3 years before both of our previous marriages were over and I was no longer working in the same department with Ross, so we decided that we’d give going out a try.

Our first date was to Friendship Fountain in Downtown Jacksonville for lunch and then our second date was to a Jaguars game! We dated for another 2 years before he proposed to me in January 2011. He was going to propose at Friendship Fountain, but it was under construction, so he took me to Memorial Park. We walked around the park for about 30 minutes (in the freezing cold by the way) before he got up the courage to ask me. He told me he wanted to take my picture for his phone standing next to a light post and as I walked over there he said that I might want to wear something in the photo. I turned around and he was holding my engagement ring. Then he asked me if I would marry him and of course I said yes! He never did take that picture! LOL

We are so much alike that it’s scary. We finish each other’s sentences, we laugh at the same jokes, we like the same TV Shows. Our coworkers tell us we are the disgustingly sweet couple. He’s honestly my best friend and I can’t imagine life without him.

We wanted a wedding that really reflected us and our personality. We LOVE Disney! We have seasonal passes and go to the parks at least every other month. So from the very beginning we knew that we wanted to incorporate that into our wedding. I’m not exactly sure how we ended up narrowing it down to Beauty and the Beast, other than Belle is his daughter’s favorite character and we knew we wanted to use the theme song from the move as our first dance. But once we did, it made choosing centerpieces sooo much easier.

Our colors were brown, blue, and ivory. Our cake was Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Icing (that is Ross’ favorite kind of cake). We made our own wedding invitations, place cards, and programs. Our table names were various locations from the movie. Our centerpieces were silk flowers sitting in teacups on top of books. We had a sweetheart table and that centerpiece was a teapot that looks like “Mrs. Potts” and the flowers mirrored my bridal bouquet. I did all of our flowers myself and I spent about a month making all the bouquets, corsages’, boutonnieres, and the center pieces. The books we used, I found at the dollar store and I painted them to look like leather bound books. All in all our decorations cost about $200.00, but it really didn’t look that way. I was very happy with how it all turned out and our guests were shocked to learn I’d made the flowers. I also made our favors: blue, heart shaped, rose scented soap.

I love how they pulled off the theme without going over the top, as Christy mentioned above. Kelly and Ross were so happy with how the wedding turned out that they included a few shout-outs to their vendors:

Julie Bennett of Deercreek Country Club:  She is amazing! Kept me calm and answered endless number of questions as I planned this!

Jeffrey of D’Land Entertainment: A great entertainer and very organized when it came to planning the music for the ceremony and the flow of the reception. He was really good about working with both Julie & Christy to make sure everything went smoothly.

Our family friend Devina Thomas:  She’s a former decorator and did our cake for us. It was sooo yummy!

David’s Bridal:  They are fantastic. The night I picked my dress, they stayed open for at least a half hour after closing to make sure this was the exact dress I wanted. And my bridesmaids were beautiful!

Men’s Wearhouse: They were able to match the vests with the bridesmaids’ dresses perfectly. And they were really professional. My two ring bearers needed the sleeves shortened the day we picked up the tuxes and they were able to do it in-house in about 15 minutes.

Christy Whitehead: I have saved the best for last! This is an outstanding photographer and such a sweet person. We were just so impressed from the very first meeting! We loved her style of photography and the fact that her “posed” shots were a lot of fun. And she did a great job of making us comfortable and the photos from our engagement session and wedding really reflect us.

Christy was really able to capture their special moments wonderfully — Kelly and Ross’ happiness just oozes out of these photos! Thank you Christy for sending their wedding my way and congratulations to the lovely couple! Thanks for sharing your special day with us. 🙂
