Michelle & Kenton’s Hot Pink and Apple Green Winery Wedding

Young couple Michelle and Kenton had a lovely wedding at a winery filled with bright pink and apple green details. The wedding also celebrated the marriage of her Christian and his Jewish cultures and their unique individual personalities which, as you will see, they were able to pull off wonderfully well.

We are able to witness this beautiful winery wedding today courtesy of the talents of Maile of Larsen’s Photography who remembers the event fondly:

I positively had a BLAST shooting this Wedding! From the moment I walked into their hotel room stuffed with Michelle’s 11 bridal attendants that were all swimming in one of my personal favorite colors – HOT PINK – I knew this was going to one busy day!

Michelle was smooth like butter…if she was feeling nervous, I couldn’t tell! But, maybe with her personal background in the pageant world & law school, this was cake!

It’s rare I actually meet our grooms prior to the actual wedding day…in fact, it’s usually at the altar as I join him to wait for his beautiful bride. HELLO! Today, we had a hottie Groom, too! What a perfectly adorable match these two made!

As always, the day was a whirlwind – fading light, dinner to get to, time-lines to meet — but, over all — all that mattered was that newlywed glance these two shared more than a few times that night that simply said  “we got THIS!”

Let’s meet ravishing bride Michelle who’s here to tell us more about herself and Kenton:

I am a third-year law student at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, CA, graduating this May.  I currently work for the Sacramento County Conflict Criminal Defenders where I assist indigent defendants with their misdemeanor cases.  My husband, Kenton, is a second-year law student, also at McGeorge.  He currently works as a Sales Representative for Verizon Wireless.  I plan to go into criminal law, while Kenton plans to pursue business law.  We reside in Sacramento with our two black cats, “Gremlin” and “Snowball.”

Kenton and I met while we were in our junior year at California State University, Chico.  We were both Legal Studies majors and met during one of our mutual classes.  We have been inseparable ever since!  We love to snowboard, play soccer, wine taste, and go to the newest movies together.

Are you loving the fuschia and apple green details yet? Michelle tells us more about their wedding’s look:

From the very beginning, Kenton and I were adamant that our wedding would be classy, but FUN!  We made our decisions with creativity and originality in mind.  Essentially, a twist on tradition.  For example, when choosing our wedding colors, we wanted something bright and punchy, not the standard pastel colors or safe black and white.  Green and pink are my favorite colors, so I chose the brightest versions of these colors I could (short of neon!), and came up with Apple Green and Fuchsia.  When our families found out, the reaction was mixed.

“What about eggplant and gold?” my mom asked.  “How about coral?!” one of my bridesmaids begged.

Kenton insisted the wedding be held outside because he’d always imagined getting married outside.  We chose a boutique winery in Mendocino County, California, near the town where I grew up.  The winery is beautiful, with a rich history in the county.  We were married beside the vineyards, in a garden area of the property where flowers, trees, and winding pathways are plentiful.

As you may notice from the pictures, we deviated from the standard of 3-6 bridesmaids/groomsmen and instead had 11…each. Kenton said that each of his friends were equally important and he insisted on having each by his side on his wedding day.  So, I agreed and we ended up with an impressively huge wedding party!

You can see glimpses of our personalities and interests in nearly every detail of our wedding.  We had traditional vows, followed by our personal vows to each other, we integrated my Christian and his Jewish wedding traditions, the wedding colors were my favorite colors, our menu consisted of some of our favorite foods.

We held the reception in the tasting room, a large circular room with huge wooden beams that stretch from the ceiling to the floor.  We integrated a number of traditions into our ceremony, including lighting of the unity candle, reading of our personalized “ketubah,” blessings read by members of both sides of our families, the string quartet played both traditional Christian and traditional Jewish wedding tunes, and our wedding vows were personalized to each other.

We also made several details unique in a fun way that went with our winery theme, such as making our table numbers wine bottle labels, making our favors wine glasses, using our favorite wine selections from the winery for our cocktail hour and our all-time favorite wines for dinner, and our place cards were wine bottle corks.

Kenton’s grooms cake was a bottle of Crown Royal (his favorite drink), my bridesmaids dresses were designed so they were long during the ceremony, but became short for the reception so that my girls could dance the night away, we featured a huge “candy bar” with everyone’s childhood favorites, and we sent our guests home with personalized wine glasses so they could toast to us for years to come.

We also chose to have a live 80’s cover band.  “DJs can play a larger mix so you aren’t restricted to just one genre.” “Is Van Halen really appropriate for a wedding?”  Still, we insisted on going with the genre that everyone known and loves to dance to.  In the end, everything came together perfectly and we received countless compliments on how great everything looked and how much FUN everyone had.  Mission complete!
