Tara & Matt’s Vintage Chic Americana Wedding (Part 1)

Wow, the week went by really fast didn’t it? To cap it off, I am treating you to an outdoor wedding dotted with eclectic yet chic details that nod to classic Americana. Tara & Matt have been together since high school but they seem to be exact opposites: Tara is into modern high fashion and Matt collects old timey stuff and antiques, from knick-knacks and furniture to cars and motorbikes.  As you will see below, they managed to combine their interests and the result is a super cool, meaningful, and full-of-personality celebration of their love!

This photo is just a taste of the awesomeness you will see in two parts and it starts right about now. 🙂 We have photographer Chloe Moore to thank for this feature and for all the gorgeous photos on this page. Here she is to give us the lowdown on the event:

When the ever-so-charming Tara was 15 years old, she met Matt – a sweet, tattooed, sartorially-blessed guy who built his own car from scratch and swept her off her feet. Fast forward ten years to 9-10-11 (a very popular wedding date!), way up in the Malibu mountains; Matt is barefoot, Tara is decked out in a big white dress and vintage striped Louboutin wedges, and the couple’s “son” Otis (their Boston Terrier) is whining at their feet while the two exchange rings.

It was truly an Americana affair from the guests’ attire – think suspenders and the Sartorialist – down to the smallest details. The bridal party got ready at the chic Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica where Tara gave her bridesmaids handmade bracelets. The venue was perfect for them. When I first arrived at the location, Matt was taking a dip in the lake with Otis. The guests enjoyed gorgeous views of the Pacific from the cliffside and when a fog rolled in, it made the reception area feel even more enchanted and fairytale-esque.

I love this wedding and I know you will too! Get ready for the eye candy, starting with Tara’s red, white, and blue wedges which is the perfect mix of classic Americana and hip, high fashion…

Isn’t she lovely? Tara is here to tell us more about herself and Matt:

Matt and I are high school sweethearts, we didn’t go to the same schools but met through friends.  Actually, when people meet us they think we’re total opposites. He’s really into vintage, Americana culture — cars, motorcycles, old furniture anything that looks like it came from the 1930’s or 40’s.  I, on the other hand, have always loved high-end fashion and traveling.  I guess it’s true what they say about opposites attracting because somehow our differences work for us and keep things interesting. Currently, Matt runs his own interior design business and I started an online designer-resale business.

I’m in love with the soft, criss-cross ruffles on her minimalist dress!

The lovely bride shares that Malibu and the Wright Ranch was the perfect venue for their rustic, vintage-chic wedding…

Don’t you just love it when couples include their pets in their celebration? This cute doggy partied with his human parents the entire afternoon/night!

Otis is our 5 year old boston terrier and he was there for the whole wedding (ceremony + party). Matt and I treat him like he’s our son.  He loves being around people too, so he fit right in! 🙂

Tara intimates the heart-wrenching story behind this bonfire:

Matt’s dad passed away 4 years ago and a big thing they had together was lighting the fireplace every night. He really wanted to acknowledge his dad in the ceremony so we lit a big bonfire and had it going all night so guests could gather around it.

When we got engaged, we both agreed right away that we didn’t want a traditional wedding that was “uptight” and “stuffy”.  Essentially, we wanted a big party to celebrate our marriage with all of our closest friends and family.

This is one cool rocker wedding but oh so elegant at the same ! I love the photo of the bridal party draped around the van imbued with the soft light- it’s tres chic. I also love the beautiful sentimental idea of the bonfire – this is what make weddings personal and your own. Oh , and least or not last , the couple looked hot ! Congrats ! I hope when we finally get our photos , they will be as memorable as yours . x
