May & Kelvin’s Kitty Cats and Balloons Engagement Session

Happy Monday and welcome to another week of funky wedding inspiration! I’ve been waiting to share today’s e-session with you because I’m in serious crush with it. For one, it’s got cats. Cats! I don’t know how many times I’ve mentioned here how much I love the furry creatures (case in point: Ashley & Ryan’s Home Life (with a Cat) E-session). For another, May and Kelvin are so adorable together it’s ridiculous! 🙂

The third reason (and definitely not the least), the photos by Sydney-based Hilary Cam Photography are absolutely gorgeous! Here’s Hilary with the back story:

Kelvin and May contacted us with a fantastic and unusual location in mind for their shoot. Their love of furry creatures had led them to the discovery of a cute alleyway in Surry Hills nicknamed Cat Alley. In a delightful hidden back street of bustling Sydney is this quiet sanctuary for a laid-back community of prowling felines. Walking down Cat Alley you can’t help escape the feeling you are but a guest amongst the cats – this is their place. Bringing a snack or two guarantees a friendly reception.

The truth is Hilary initially submitted another shoot to me (which was fabulous too) but I asked to feature this one instead — yup, that’s how much I love it and you’ll see why in a bit.

See? Everything about this shoot is adorable, really. Let’s meet the cutie pie couple. Groom-to-be Kelvin shares that he and May met at a friend’s 21st birthday party. They chose to have their e-session in Cat Alley because:

There are two things that make that street special, the cats and their friendly owners. It would have been selfish just for myself and May to be the sole focus of the photo-shoot. May has always loved cats and their different personalities and this street is littered with cats of all colours, sizes and personalities. The owners also provide a strong story. The passion they share on this street is amazing and their generosity with allowing strangers to come play with the cats and taking the time to speak to them as well is one of a kind. Naturally, I am slowly becoming a convert. 🙂

Such a cute shoot, and the photos are just beautiful! Before I end the post, I want to share that this shoot was actually a free session that May & Kelvin won. For Valentine’s this year, Hilary Cam Photography ran a competition to give away a pre-wedding / couples shoot to the most creative concept. Kelvin entered the competition and explained May’s love of cats and described a quiet little street nicknamed “Cat Alley” filled with friendly felines and their owners. More from Hilary:

We had never heard of cat alley before and as animal lovers this shoot sounded much more exciting then the “vintage picnic” entries. It was a tricky shoot as my assistant and May were constantly distracted by the playing cats and not looking at the camera.  Cats being cats we could only tempt a couple into playing in our shoot, the others went about their daily lives and promptly went into hiding when the camera was pointing towards them. After “Cat Alley” we took some shots around the back streets of Surry Hills and finished up in the park.

Thank you so much Hilary for sharing your dreamy images of this delightful and unique e-session, and congratulations, May and Kelvin! Have a great time at your wedding! 🙂
