Kennedy Wedding Inspiration Shoot

What could be a more fitting feature for the day before the 4th of July than a styled wedding shoot inspired by an iconic American couple, JFK and Jackie O! This shoot is brimming with well thought-out details in a pastel-pretty palette that evokes the nostalgic charm of the ’50s and ’60s, and of course delightful photos that pay homage to the former First Couple’s style.

This very inspiring shoot is the brainchild of Elizabeth Glessner of Glessner Photography and here she is to share how it came about:

I’ve been dreaming up the details of this Kennedy-inspired styled shoot for months. I’ve always had bit of an obsession with Jackie O. — I mean, how could you not, with her fabulous sense of style, grace and beauty — so when I came across a fabulous white Rachel Roy shift dress while browsing Rent the Runway, I knew it was meant to be. I called up Nashville-based event designer Liz of CHIC Weddings and Events, and she completely got my vision. We decided on the historic Carnton Plantation, just outside of Nashville in Franklin, TN, as the venue for this shoot, and it could not have been more perfect with it’s abundance of fields, trees, gardens, and teal accents on the mansion itself.

These larger than life invites are exquisite, and just look at our JFK and Jackie O. below… they nailed the look to a T!

More from Elizabeth:

The warm spring colors — yellows, peaches, pinks, and greens — reflected the color palette that Jackie herself often adorned in the 50’s and 60’s, and florals centerpieces were placed in fabulous goblet vases found at T.J. Maxx. Simple mismatched placemats were created using printed paper, and additional accents included lace tablecloths, antique books and a dress form.

Totally loving the sweet flower arrangements and the eclectic mix of feminine colors and pretty patterns…

Oh this ruffled cake looks absolutely divine! Elizabeth further shares:

Kaitlin of Silver Box Cake Designs decked out the dessert table with goodies such as homemade lemon cremes, mini lemon meringue tarts, and a simple, yet elegant, wedding cake featuring fondant ruffles for a touch of flair. The homemade treats were placed alongside yellow oreos and pastel-colored marshmallows in mason jars and placed on a lovely antique dresser.

Elizabeth spills how they achieved the classic Kennedy look:

Our Jackie look-alike wore the fabulous Rachel Roy dress, white tights, Coach booties, and a pillbox hat custom made by Nashville-based designer Fanny and June, while our John F. Kennedy doppelganger donned a dashing gray Calvin Klein tuxedo with a peach necktie and Warby Parker sunglasses very similar to those seen so often in photos of the Kennedy’s boating in New England.

  1. The invitations for this set have been ripped off from the talented UK designer who features his work from way back in 2010 on his deviant art account:

  2. Thank you for pointing that out Selina! Yes I do see the similarities in the design. I will need to ask the invitation designer for this shoot, My Lady Dye, to confirm if she did take inspiration from Peter Bowen’s design.

Anyway thanks for letting me know. I strive to present original content on this blog but from time to time things like this do slip by my radar.
