Kimberly & Chris’ Bowling Engagement Session

I think it’s wonderful when a couple pays tribute to how they met in their engagement session since it certainly makes the choice of venue and the presence of incidental props more meaningful, doesn’t it? A bowling lane was instrumental to how Kimberly and Chris got together and today we will witness a re-enactment through this delightful shoot!

This very fun shoot was sent in by the lovely Kristin Chalmers who is definitely no stranger to this site. (Yup you’ve seen her gorgeous work here before via Gloria & Renny’s Double Joy Wedding and Angela & Mark’s Ice Cream Truck Elopement!) Here’s what she had to say about the session:

Kim and Chris met bowling, so there was no way that I was NOT going to be shooting their engagement session anywhere but a bowling alley! Here in New England we have what’s called “Candle Pin Bowling”. The balls are smaller and so are the pins. So we headed to a history alley called Bowl Haven, where you can not only bowl at lanes that are about 100 years old, but you can have the best wood burning oven pizza in town. Sacco’s is attached to Flatbreads Pizza! So we ate, drank and bowled the day away. Kim and Chris are on a league, they have their own shoes and everything. The best part was that the lanes were empty and we had the whole place to ourselves. After bowling we walked around Somerville (local Boston neighborhood) where I proceeded to talk Kim and Chris into letting me photograph them at my storage unit. They thought I was crazy until they saw the light in the place. We even got to play a bit with their cell phones and get them in the photo as well! Their wedding is this weekend and I’m so excited to spend another great day with them.

Aren’t they adorable? I’m loving the matching bowling shirts too! Kimberly’s here to share their equally adorbs love story!

Our story isn’t a long one since we met only in September of 2011.  The hospital I work for has a bowling league and a group of us in my unit (I’m an RN in a Special Care Nursery) decided to form a team. I didn’t decide until last minute to join and almost didn’t because there was an odd number of us and someone would be on a team by themselves. But we rearranged the teams so all of us could bowl. I would find out later that Chris joined the league last minute and people were rearranged so that he could bowl on the same team as his Dad. It was fate!  I remember posting on Facebook that I joined bowling and a friend and former preemie mom told me that she met her husband bowling on the same league. I thought “Who meets their husband bowling?” Apparently I would too!

Our team, appropriately named “The Diaper Pins” bowled against Chris’s team the second week of bowling…mid September. Each Monday night after that he “courted me” coming over to say Hi and chat or tease me about my bowling skills (I’m terrible…the second worst bowler in the league!)  We had our first date November 13, 2011 and the rest is history! 🙂

This being the second marriage for both of us, we knew what we wanted in a partner and in life. I have 2 sons — 8 and 7 yrs old — and he has a 10 year old daughter.  I work 12-hour days every weekend and Chris works a typical Monday thru Friday 6a-3p job as a production supervisor for a company that makes products for operating rooms.  We hardly have whole days off together so every moment we have together is cherished.  I am a Disney World fanatic. I have been 16 times and my 2 boys have been there several times in their short lives. Chris hadn’t been on a vacation in a very long time… over 10 years, so I took him to Disney World in January where he proposed in front of Cinderella Castle the day we got there.

(Aww, now just how sweet was that story? <3)

Kimberly’s back with some behind-the-scenes details for this super cool e-session:

I found Kristin through Facebook. My DJ/singer for the wedding had her listed on his Facebook page so I got in touch with her. I wanted something  different, non-traditional that captured who we really are.  Kristin was our girl!
I bought us dorky matching bowling love t-shirts at Valentines day to wear for our engagement session. Kristin made us feel so at ease. I love having my picture taken…Chris isn’t as enthusiastic about it as me, but she made us feel so relaxed and was able to capture us being ourselves.
After bowling, she took us to Kickass Cupcakes. There is a picture of me shoving a cupcake in my mouth…I *love* that picture. That’s the real me. In fact I just had a giant cupcake as a snack yesterday. What bride does that 2 days before her wedding? Me. LOL
After a short walk, she took us to her storage unit at UHaul where we got 2 of my favorite pictures…the iPhone picture and the one of me jumping. Who knew pictures at a storage unit would come out so awesome?! Kristin did. I love her work. She really is amazing. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings. In 35 hours we will be getting married!!!
Kristin’s photos of Kimberly & Chris did turn out amazing, I agree! (Side note: Kimberly e-mailed me her answers on her wedding weekend which just goes to show how wonderfully calm and relaxed she was back then. So awesome!)
