Andrea & Bill’s Navy and Pink Travel-themed Wedding

navy & pink wedding

Andrea and Bill’s sweet pink and navy-hued travel-themed wedding got rained on a bit but that didn’t stop them from having a fun, memorable, and unique-to-them celebration. In fact, if it weren’t for the rain they wouldn’t even have this darling pink umbrella photo which turned out both whimsical and romantic, thanks to the talents of  Adam and Kelly of Poptastic Bride regulars One Eleven Images (see their previously featured work). Here are Adam & Kelly’s fond memories of the day:

Andrea and Bill’s wedding took place on what started out to be a beautiful day in Lincoln, MA at the Pierce House. We had the great opportunity to shoot their engagement session and get to know the couple a little bit before the big day. So seeing them again on their wedding day was exciting and casual for us. As everyone was getting ready before the ceremony, a very large rain storm was approaching, and as the ceremony time got closer the unfortunate decision was made to move the event inside and under cover, with only minutes to spare. It proceeded to rain for the remainder of the night, but that wasn’t enough to spoil what turned out to be a wonderful day. Andrea and Bill and their whole wedding party were troopers, even braving the rain for portraits outside with the assistance of a lot of umbrellas purchased only a day before by Andrea’s mother. Although not the best weather, it made for some memorable portraits, followed by a great night of fun and dancing and overall a fantastic celebration!

Don’t you just love how the blues and pinks in this wedding complement each other? I’d love for you to meet the lovely couple too so Andrea’s here to tell us about the two of them:

I am a special education teacher and my husband is an engineer.  We met on the first day of high school, over 12 years ago.  Although we didn’t date immediately, we quickly became very close friends and stayed that way through all of high school.  We ended up in the same city for college, and started dating our sophomore year.  During our time together, we’ve enjoyed traveling to many different places, whether it be a weekend trip to the Cape or a month long trek in a foreign country.  We currently live in the South End  neighborhood in Boston, where we bought our first condo two days before our wedding.  We’re also avid Crossfitters, which we started doing to get in shape for our wedding and loved so much that we couldn’t stop!

From this point on, I will let Andrea tell you more about their wedding and how they made it uniquely their own:

The wedding was all about the celebration — we had a brief ceremony at the same location as the reception, and then got right down to a dinner and the party!

We’re both vegetarians so we went heavy on the veg options with our caterer (although we still offered chicken and steak as main courses).  We also added in a small trivia section right before dinner, where the DJ asked our guests some funny questions from our history just to make it a little more personal.

We had a travel theme — each table did not have a number but was named after a city we had traveled to during our time together.  We  had the reception at a place that gave us a blank slate — we were allowed to bring in whatever we wanted so we brought in pictures of the two of us over the past 12 years, and also created centerpieces for each table with pictures of us in the city that the table was named after.

The place cards were airplane tickets that we had printed for each guest, and my husband even planned the entire honeymoon as a surprise for me and revealed it in front of everyone at the wedding.

Our color scheme was pink and navy blue — we incorporated the colors into everything, from the expected (linens, clothing, decorations) to the unusual (pink candy table, pink and blue signature cocktails, pink and navy cupcakes).

I’m a baker on the side, and I’ve always wanted to make the cake for my wedding, so I decided to bake 500+ cupcakes, plus a mini-cake for us to cut into.

Some parting thoughts and words of advice from the bride:

Things will break, people will be late, details will change, and it will rain.  But in the end, you’re marrying your best friend, so how could it be any better?  It is not worth getting worried about things not going perfectly, because they won’t, and that’s okay.

Thank you Adam & Kelly for sending this delightful wedding my way, and congratulations Andrea and Bill! Here’s wishing you a lifetime of wedded bliss! 🙂
