Dagny & Andrew’s Cute and Crazy Ice Cream Sundae E-session

ice cream e-session

How adorable are Dagny and Andrew and who doesn’t love ice cream??? The moment I saw this couple’s engagement photos, I just knew I had to share them with you. I just love how crazy (in a good way!) they got towards the middle with the whipped cream fight. The fact that talented Boston-based Karina Picache of OhKarina Photography‘s photos wonderfully captured them at their most natural is just plain icing on the cake (ok, ice cream in this case). She actually came up with the idea for this session and it certainly suited the fun couple to a T — don’t you think so too? Please enjoy!

Let’s get to know the fun duo a little better… here’s pretty Dagny to tell us more about herself + Andrew, their love story, and the e-session:

I’m a photographer working towards a career in weddings. I currently blog about my adventures in photography at dagnydreamphoto.com. My husband Andrew is a senior at Harvard extension working towards a career in lab research. We were both unschooled (leader-led education; think homeschooling without a curriculum) and we met at a unschooling conference in Peabody, MA in 2004.
I’m very artistic and Andrew is very scientific, so our personalities and interests are definitely on opposite sides of the spectrum, but that just means we have lots to teach each other! We like to spend our free time watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reading books to each other and going on road trips.

We were best friends for a few years before Andrew finally acknowledged we were perfect for each other (I, of course, knew long before he did). Since he’s my “high school sweetheart” minus the high school, we got to do a lot of our growing up together which has been both incredibly embarrassing and, alternatively, wonderful. Our relationship was very difficult the first few years because we lived an hour away from each other and so we spent a LOT of nights up until 5AM instant messaging each other. Our late-night romance trend continued when at 2AM on a cold day in March he proposed in his pajamas with his mother’s ring. My response was a sarcastic “yeah, I guess!” which in retrospect doesn’t make a very good story, but at the time all I could think was that it was so obvious that I would say yes, there wasn’t much of a point in him asking!

Our photographer Karina must have read our minds when she suggested that we have an Ice Cream Sunday engagement session. Ice cream is a big deal in our house, and – I’ll be honest – we actually stockpile it when it’s on sale and have half a basement freezer devoted to cookie dough, mint chocolate chip and chocolate ice cream. You could say sundaes were a pretty influential part of our dating days; from making the best the homemade cookies for soaking up melty ice cream to debates over the best toppings. The setup gave us the opportunity to just be our silly selves, and the photos feel like such a perfect reflection of us because of that.
We really enjoyed planning all the yummy things we could include in our shoot, eating ice cream for breakfast and just generally making a huge mess in front of Karina’s camera and smiley face!
