Sandi & Casey’s Playful, Colorful and “Unmistakably Austin” E-session

Sandi and Casey fell in love with the rich culture and vibrant artistic vibe of Austin Texas when Casey moved there for work so they wanted to capture it in a unique photo session to commemorate their engagement. Cory Ryan Photography, responsible for the beautiful photos you see on this page, has the rest of the details:

Casey and Sandi are about as adorable as couples get! While they are tying the knot in Alabama, they wanted Casey’s current home in Austin to be represented for their engagement session! I am always up for fun brainstorming session with couples, but Casey and Sandi already knew what they wanted, and I was thrilled to get to shoot at ROADSIDE RELICS (which is actually the interior vintage neon gallery behind the “Austin Greeting” postcard mural)! I mean, a giant plaster rooster! Old rusted car doors! Neon signs everywhere! Then to balance out the session, we added on a little time in nature with views of the downtown Austin skyline – pretty much making it the perfect combination of locations for Austin photo locations!

Let’s find out how this adorable twosome got together shall we? Over to you, Sandi!

Casey, my now husband, grew up in the Grand Rapids area of Michigan & I’m from Birmingham, Alabama born and raised. He still considers himself to be a Yankee & I like to maintain my southern belle status. Casey moved with his family to Alabama at the age of eighteen for his & his father’s job. One sunny day he drove up into my postage stamp of a town, Springville, Al, in a new Dodge Viper & was clearly not to be ignored. I decided to approach this handsome stranger in a fancy car,  because obviously he was lost. I marched right up to him with my best smile & southern charm & he completely blew me off! I was offended! Needless to say I went home & vented to my mother about the whole thing, like women tend to do. As chance would have it, about two years later my mom, a local hairstylist, casually mentioned that she’d given my phone number to a customer’s son she thought I’d like. She’d never done that before, I was shocked, & of course the guy was him. A few MySpace messages, phone calls and a first date to Joe’s Crab Shack (yea, I still kid him about it) & the rest was history.

Sandi shares a few thoughts on their e-session:

In August of 2011 Casey moved to the Austin, Texas area for his job. We both instantly fell in love with the rich culture, art, and food that was all throughout this beautiful city. When we got engaged in November of 2012 we began looking for a photographer & a venue that would be able to capture all of the elements to make our pictures “unmistakably Austin” & anything but cookie-cutter.  Everyone knows Roadhouse Relics for the famous “Welcome to Austin” mural on the outside, but we were intrigued by the eclectic collection of neon signs, art, statues, etc. that were on the inside. Casey hired our awesome photographer, Cory Ryan, & she was able to capture all of the unique elements the venue had to offer & give us exactly what we were looking for.

We couldn’t have been more pleased with Cory or Roadhouse Relics. We were married on June 29th at a beautiful venue, Mathews Manor,  in Springville, Alabama with 200+ of our closest friends.

  1. I absolutely love Roadside Relics for an engagement session location! It doesn’t get any funkier than a neon sign workshop in the heart of Austin, TX… And Casey and Sandi add the perfect personality to it all. Thanks so much for the feature! 🙂
