Audrey & Brian’s Elegant and Rustic DIY Estatoah Falls Wedding

Estatoah Falls rustic wedding

Audrey and Brian were wed on September 7th of this year — their 4th dating anniversary! — at the beautiful Estatoah Falls (Mud Creek) in Dillard. They included a lot of personal touches and almost all of the decor was DIYed by the couple, their families, and friends which ensured that the celebration truly reflected the two of them.

I will leave it up to Steffi Smith of Cariad Photography to tell you more about the fun and creative details about this lovely rustic celebration:

Many of the decorations and details of Audrey and Brian’s wedding were DIY and a lot of thought went into them. My personal favorite were the Chandeliers made out of canning jars and twinkle light. The appetizier buffet for the cocktail hour was the cutest thing I have ever seen, instead of traditional flowers the bouquets were vegetables. When it got dark all the torches were lit thoughout the property and that in itself was so magical. If you wanted a rustic wedding this was certainly the perfect spot. Audrey rented a little cabin not far from the fall to get ready in and then we went over to the ceremony site for First Look photos. The couple wanted to get most of their photos done before all of the 200+ guests would arrive and that is what we did. Our brides flowers were lovely… perfect for this woodsy outdoor wedding. Many years ago I heard a story that the owner of this wonderful property bought it for his wife to be as an engagement present, I don’t know if that is true, but to me it always made this place so romantic, not only because of its beauty, but also because of this sweet story.

About the couple, in the lovely Audrey’s own words:

Brian and I set our wedding date September the 7th for a reason, that is our dating anniversary! We were wed on our 4 year anniversary. Brian is 28 years old and I am 26. We met through mutual friends while in College. We knew each other 2 years before we started dating. One of our friends that introduced us, Gabe Dodd, was also the one to marry us!  Brian graduated from UGA in 2009 with his forestry degree, and is now the County Ranger (over wild land forest fires and forest management) in Madison, NC. He is also one of the brave fire fighters that goes out west to fight fire during the summer.  He is my hero. I graduated fron Penn Foster Career School in 2011 with my Vet Assistant Certificate, I work at All Pets Animal Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Asheville, NC.  I love being able to interact with all kinds of animals daily. Both of us have jobs that keep us busy and we both are outdoorsy; having a normal church wedding indoors was just not an option.

From this point on, Audrey will take us through their wedding details:

Estatoah Falls, Dillard GA as always been a wedding venue dream for me, I had been there as a kid for a number of picnics and cookouts for both of my parents jobs. It always seemed mesmerizing with the large trees, moss, waterfall and large boulders everywhere.

Both sets of parents loved the venue though still wanted a church wedding, that is when bringing in the church pews in came into play! Thank you to Tents, Tents, Tents in Cumming GA we were able to have our church pews, chairs and large farm tables!

We did all the decorating ourselves. We wanted rustic elegance, setting the atmosphere with white lights on all pavilions, placing ferns and plants throughout.

The Passed But Never Forgotten picture window was made by myself along with the most recent grandparents pictures were placed in their places at the ceremony and both Brian and I laid a red rose in front of them as went passed down the isle.  Both Brian and I lost a grandparent July of this year. My Great Grandmother, Dorothy Stokley, passed away from cancer on July 3rd his Grandfather (Pop), Cecil Barge, passed away July 31st from cancer both meant the world to us and we wanted them there with us.
We added to the church feel with free standing doors. They we made by my dad and Paul Griggs. They are amazing!

I made all the center flower arrangements, my dad cut the bottoms of bottles off and i assembled the flowers, my dad also cut the wooden coasters for the flameless candles to sit on and the arrangements went over those. Thy were all done with silk flowers.

Our flowers for the wedding party and family were prepared by Buds and Blossoms Clayton, GA. We wanted something a little more unique Thistle and Dusty Miller were the def musts for everyone in the wedding party.  Brian and I both had silver balls, and i added garden roses and ranunculus.  A great friend, Katie Griggs, did all the girls hair including my mothers. My dress was from Bravura in Cumming Ga. Had the best consultant, Jennifer!

My grandmother made the wreath at the entrance and my maid of Honor Britt made the large burlap wreath on the pavilion. The card tree was made by all my bridesmaids and myself. Flowers on the arch were made by my grandmother and aunts. Flowers down the aisle were assembled by myself and Tabitha Griggs.

We also made our own chandeliers! My mother and grandmother placed all the jars in the canning baskets and added lights. Once we held them up beautiful as they were we felt they needed more. We had tear drop crystals left over from the ceremony arch and decided to add them! They were perfect!

The cheese balls were prepared by both mothers, veggie and fruit were prepared by a great family friend Vikki McFalls, and our coordinator was another great family friend Tabitha Griggs. We did pretty much everything ourselves.

My parents David and Laura made all the jelly for the favors, one was jalapeño jelly and the other peach. “Some like it Hot, Some like it Sweet” all of the signs where made by family or friends.

The wedding cake and grooms cake were both done by a local, Renee Vargas. She did a wonderful job. Wedding cake was red velvet with cream cheese filling and buttercream icing, grooms cake was german chocolate with german chocolate icing filling and fondant. Grooms cake was modeled after Brian’s chainsaw at home.
